    kalitakanakachēlaṃ khaṇḍitāpatkuchēlaṃgaḻadhṛtavanamālaṃ garvitārātikālam ।kalimalaharaśīlaṃ kāntidhūtēndranīlaṃvinamadavanaśīlaṃ vēṇugōpālamīḍē ॥ 1 ॥

    I praise Venugopala — clad in golden garment, removing the wretched garments of misfortune, with hanging forest-garland on his throat, death to the proud foe, of nature that destroys the stains of Kali, his luster shaming the sapphire, of the nature of protecting those who bow to him.

    I praise Venugopala — captivating among the maidens of Vraja, swaying with the joy of being saluted, holder of the great mountain Govardhana in his hand, protector of Brahma the lotus-born, granter of the desired fruits, who has conquered the immortals' wealth.

    I praise Venugopala — the watering-trench at the root of the wishing-vine of dense compassion's beauty, his lovely cheek of joy from the ocean-pot's daughter, the cotton fluff burning the endless evil-actions of the bowed worlds.

    meaning

    I praise Venugopala — possessor of the host of fine virtues granting welfare, friend of the wise, dread to the host of the Daityas, like a divine wife to the gods, of soft sweet speech that is the very mango-tree of distressed prosperity.

    I praise Venugopala — his forehead glistening with the mark of musk-paste, whose own play is of the nature of creation, dissolution and preservation of the world, the swan within the lotus-mind of all the assembled sages.

    I praise Venugopala — playful slayer of demons, sporting with the tossing of the Nanda-baton, displaying his arrow at the time of need, full at the heart of the world, of pure beautiful fame whose splendor surpasses even Sri's lotus-stalk.

    svaparicharaṇalabdha śrīdharāśādhipālaṃsvamahimalavalīlājātavidhyaṇḍagōḻam ।gurutarabhavaduḥkhānīka vāḥpūrakūlaṃvinamadavanaśīlaṃ vēṇugōpālamīḍē ॥ 7 ॥
    meaning

    I praise Venugopala — protector of the lord of Lakshmi gained by his own service, who in mere sport made the egg of Brahma from a fragment of his own greatness, the bank that holds back the great flood-river of the army of worldly sufferings.

    I praise Venugopala — the protector of the splendor of Sri's coral by the beauty of his lotus feet, whose compassion makes him expert in protecting all the meritorious, his luster surpassing the tamala tree, the very root of Rukmini's merit.

    O Sri Venugopala, ocean of mercy, swayer of Sri Rukmini in fine golden garment — accept this composition of mine with grace and, like a garland, place it upon me — make me far from sorrow.
