    श्री परमात्मने नमःअथ द्वादशोऽध्यायःभक्तियोगः

    ōṃ śrī paramātmanē namaḥatha dvādaśō'dhyāyaḥbhaktiyōgaḥ

    अर्जुन उवाचएवं सततयुक्ता ये भक्तास्त्वां पर्युपासतेये चाप्यक्षरमव्यक्तं तेषां के योगवित्तमाः1

    arjuna uvāchaēvaṃ satatayuktā bhaktāstvāṃ paryupāsatē chāpyakṣaramavyaktaṃ tēṣāṃ yōgavittamāḥ1
    meaning

    Those devotees who ever harmonised worship Thee, and those also who worship the Indestructible, the Unmanifested, whether of these is the more learned in yoga?

    श्रीभगवानुवाचमय्यावेश्य मनो ये मां नित्ययुक्ता उपासतेश्रद्धया परयोपेतास्ते मे युक्ततमा मताः2

    śrībhagavānuvāchamayyāvēśya manō māṃ nityayuktā upāsatēśraddhayā parayōpētāstē yuktatamā matāḥ2

    They who with mind fixed on Me ever harmonised worship Me, with faith supreme endowed, these, in My opinion, are best in yoga.

    tvakṣaramanirdēśyamavyaktaṃ paryupāsatēsarvatragamachintyaṃ cha kūṭasthamachalaṃ dhruvam3

    They who worship the Indestructible, the Ineffable, the unmanifested, Omnipresent, and Unthinkable, the Unchanging, Immutable, Eternal,

    सन्नियम्येन्द्रियग्रामं सर्वत्र समबुद्धयःते प्राप्नुवन्ति मामेव सर्वभूतहिते रताः4

    sanniyamyēndriyagrāmaṃ sarvatra samabuddhayaḥ prāpnuvanti māmēva sarvabhūtahitē ratāḥ4
    meaning

    Restraining and subduing the senses, regarding everything equally, in the welfare of all rejoicing, these also come unto Me.

    क्लेशोऽधिकतरस्तेषामव्यक्तासक्तचेतसाम्अव्यक्ता हि गतिर्दुःखं देहवद्भिरवाप्यते5

    klēśō'dhikatarastēṣāmavyaktāsaktachētasāmavyaktā hi gatirduḥkhaṃ dēhavadbhiravāpyatē5

    The difficulty of those whose minds are set on the Unmanifested is greater; for the path of the Unmanifested is hard for the embodied to reach.

    Those verily who, renouncing all actions in Me and intent on Me, worship meditating on Me, with whole-hearted yoga,

    तेषामहं समुद्धर्ता मृत्युसंसारसागरात्भवामि चिरात्पार्थ मय्यावेशितचेतसाम्7

    tēṣāmahaṃ samuddhartā mṛtyusaṃsārasāgarātbhavāmi na chirātpārtha mayyāvēśitachētasām7
    meaning

    These I speedily lift up from the ocean of death and existence, O Pârtha, their minds being fixed on Me.

    मय्येव मन आधत्स्व मयि बुद्धिं निवेशयनिवसिष्यसि मय्येव अत ऊर्ध्वं संशयः8

    mayyēva mana ādhatsva mayi buddhiṃ nivēśayanivasiṣyasi mayyēva ata ūrdhvaṃ na saṃśayaḥ8
    meaning

    Place thy mind in me, into Me let thy Reason enter; then without doubt thou shalt abide in Me hereafter.

    अथ चित्तं समाधातुं शक्नोषि मयि स्थिरम्अभ्यासयोगेन ततो मामिच्छाप्तुं धनञ्जय9

    atha chittaṃ samādhātuṃ na śaknōṣi mayi sthiramabhyāsayōgēna tatō māmichChāptuṃ dhanañjaya9
    meaning

    And if thou art not able firmly to fix thy mindon Me, then by the yoga of practice seek to reach Me, O Dhananjaya.

    अभ्यासेऽप्यसमर्थोऽसि मत्कर्मपरमो भवमदर्थमपि कर्माणि कुर्वन्सिद्धिमवाप्स्यसि10

    abhyāsē'pyasamarthō'si matkarmaparamō bhavamadarthamapi karmāṇi kurvansiddhimavāpsyasi10
    meaning

    If also thou art not equal to constant practice, be intent on My service; performing actions for My sake, thou shalt attain perfection.

    अथैतदप्यशक्तोऽसि कर्तुं मद्योगमाश्रितःसर्वकर्मफलत्यागं ततः कुरु यतात्मवान्11

    athaitadapyaśaktō'si kartuṃ madyōgamāśritaḥsarvakarmaphalatyāgaṃ tataḥ kuru yatātmavān11
    meaning

    If even to do this thou hast not strength, then, taking refuge in union with Me, renounce all fruit of action with the self controlled.

    श्रेयो हि ज्ञानमभ्यासाज्ज्ञानाद्ध्यानं विशिष्यतेध्यानात्कर्मफलत्यागस्त्यागाच्छान्तिरनन्तरम्12

    śrēyō hi jñānamabhyāsājjñānāddhyānaṃ viśiṣyatēdhyānātkarmaphalatyāgastyāgāchChāntiranantaram12

    Better indeed is wisdom than constant-practice; than wisdom, meditation is better;than meditation, renunciation of the fruit of action; on renunciation follows peace.

    अद्वेष्टा सर्वभूतानां मैत्रः करुण एव निर्ममो निरहङ्कारः समदुःखसुखः क्षमी13

    advēṣṭā sarvabhūtānāṃ maitraḥ karuṇa ēva chanirmamō nirahaṅkāraḥ samaduḥkhasukhaḥ kṣamī13

    He who beareth no ill-will to any being, friendly and compassionate, without attachment and egoism, balanced in pleasure and pain, and forgiving,

    सन्तुष्टः सततं योगी यतात्मा दृढनिश्चयःमय्यर्पितमनोबुद्धिर्यो मद्भक्तः मे प्रियः14

    santuṣṭaḥ satataṃ yōgī yatātmā dṛḍhaniśchayaḥmayyarpitamanōbuddhiryō madbhaktaḥ sa priyaḥ14
    meaning

    Ever content, harmonious, with the self-controlled, resolute, with mind and Reason dedicated to Me, he, My devotee, is dear to Me.

    यस्मान्नोद्विजते लोको लोकान्नोद्विजते यःहर्षामर्षभयोद्वेगैर्मुक्तो यः मे प्रियः15

    yasmānnōdvijatē lōkō lōkānnōdvijatē cha yaḥharṣāmarṣabhayōdvēgairmuktō yaḥ sa cha priyaḥ15
    meaning

    He from whom the world doth not shrink away, who doth not shrink away from the world, freed from the anxieties of joy, anger, and fear, he is dear to me.

    अनपेक्षः शुचिर्दक्ष उदासीनो गतव्यथःसर्वारम्भपरित्यागी यो मद्भक्तः मे प्रियः16

    anapēkṣaḥ śuchirdakṣa udāsīnō gatavyathaḥsarvārambhaparityāgī madbhaktaḥ sa priyaḥ16
    meaning

    He who wants nothing, is pure, expert, passionless, untroubled, renouncing every undertaking, he, My devotee, is dear to Me.

    यो हृष्यति द्वेष्टि शोचति काङ्क्षतिशुभाशुभपरित्यागी भक्तिमान्यः मे प्रियः17

    na hṛṣyati na dvēṣṭi na śōchati na kāṅkṣatiśubhāśubhaparityāgī bhaktimānyaḥ sa priyaḥ17
    meaning

    He who neither loveth nor hateth, nor grieveth, nor desireth, renouncing good and evil, full of devotion, he is dear to Me.

    समः शत्रौ मित्रे तथा मानापमानयोःशीतोष्णसुखदुःखेषु समः सङ्गविवर्जितः18

    samaḥ śatrau cha mitrē cha tathā mānāpamānayōḥśītōṣṇasukhaduḥkhēṣu samaḥ saṅgavivarjitaḥ18
    meaning

    Alike to foe and friend, and also in fame and ignominy, alike in cold and heat, pleasures and pains, destitute of attachment,

    तुल्यनिन्दास्तुतिर्मौनी सन्तुष्टो येन केनचित्अनिकेतः स्थिरमतिर्भक्तिमान्मे प्रियो नरः19

    tulyanindāstutirmaunī santuṣṭō yēna kēnachitanikētaḥ sthiramatirbhaktimānmē priyō naraḥ19
    meaning

    Taking equally praise and reproach, silent, wholly content with what cometh, homeless, firm in mind, full of devotion, that man is dear to Me.

    ये तु धर्म्यामृतमिदं यथोक्तं पर्युपासतेश्रद्दधाना मत्परमा भक्तास्तेऽतीव मे प्रियाः20

    tu dharmyāmṛtamidaṃ yathōktaṃ paryupāsatēśraddadhānā matparamā bhaktāstē'tīva priyāḥ20
    meaning

    They verily who partake of this life-giving wisdom as taught herein, endued with faith, I their supreme Object, devotees, they are surpassingly dear to Me.

    तत्सदिति श्रीमद्भगवद्गीतासूपनिषत्सु ब्रह्मविद्यायां योगशास्त्रेश्रीकृष्णार्जुनसंवादे भक्तियोगो नाम द्वादशोऽध्यायः12

    ōṃ tatsaditi śrīmadbhagavadgītāsūpaniṣatsu brahmavidyāyāṃ yōgaśāstrēśrīkṛṣṇārjunasaṃvādē bhaktiyōgō nāma dvādaśō'dhyāyaḥ12
