- verse 1देवि त्वां स्तोतुमिच्छामि साध्वीनां प्रवरां पराम् ।परात्परां च परमां न हि स्तोतुं क्षमोऽधुना ॥ 1 ॥dēvi tvāṃ stōtumichChāmi sādhvīnāṃ pravarāṃ parām ।parātparāṃ cha paramāṃ na hi stōtuṃ kṣamō'dhunā ॥ 1 ॥meaning
O Goddess, I wish to praise you, the supreme among the virtuous, the transcendent, the absolute—though I am incapable of praising you adequately.

In the Vedas the character of a stotra is paramount; I am unable to speak of your nature or your qualities, O woman of good vows.

You are of the form of pure sattva, free from anger and violence; because of that, the sage was not cursed—because you abandoned him.

I have worshipped you, O virtuous one, as if you were my own mother, just as Aditi; you are compassion in the form of a sister and forgiveness in the form of a mother.

O goddess, you have protected my life, my sons and my wife; I worship you, my reverence grows, and my love increases.

Though you are ever worthy of worship in this world, O mother of the universe, I increase your worship again and again.
- verse 7ये त्वामाषाढसङ्क्रान्त्यां पूजयिष्यन्ति भक्तितः ।पञ्चम्यां मनसाख्यायां मासान्ते वा दिने दिने ॥ 7 ॥yē tvāmāṣāḍhasaṅkrāntyāṃ pūjayiṣyanti bhaktitaḥ ।pañchamyāṃ manasākhyāyāṃ māsāntē vā dinē dinē ॥ 7 ॥meaning
Those who will worship you with devotion at the summer solstice, on the fifth lunar day named Manasa, or at the end of every month, every day.
- verse 8पुत्रपौत्रादयस्तेषां वर्धन्ते च धनानि च ।यशस्विनः कीर्तिमन्तो विद्यावन्तो गुणान्विताः ॥ 8 ॥putrapautrādayastēṣāṃ vardhantē cha dhanāni cha ।yaśasvinaḥ kīrtimantō vidyāvantō guṇānvitāḥ ॥ 8 ॥meaning
Their sons and grandsons will increase and their wealth will grow; they will be famous and glorious, full of learning and endowed with virtues.

Those who will not worship you out of ignorance and who speak disparagingly of you—they will be devoid of Lakshmi and will always face the fear of snakes.

You are the Lakshmi of heaven in the celestial realm, and in Vaikuntha you are the art-form of Kamala; the divine sage Jaratkaru is the portion of Narayana.

With austerity and power your father created you with his mind for the protection of us all—therefore you are known as Manasa.

O Goddess Manasa, you are capable through your own mind, you are the perfected yogini in your own self—therefore you, called Manasadevi, are worshipped and saluted.

Because the gods worship you unceasingly with intense devotion through their mind—therefore the ancient knowers call you Manasadevi.
- verse 14सत्त्वरूपा च देवी त्वं शश्वत्सत्त्वनिषेवया ।यो हि यद्भावयेन्नित्यं शतं प्राप्नोति तत्समम् ॥ 14 ॥sattvarūpā cha dēvī tvaṃ śaśvatsattvaniṣēvayā ।yō hi yadbhāvayēnnityaṃ śataṃ prāpnōti tatsamam ॥ 14 ॥meaning
You are of sattva-form, O Goddess, through constant engagement with the quality of sattva; whoever meditates on anything continuously obtains its equivalent.
- verse 15इदं स्तोत्रं पुण्यबीजं तां सम्पूज्य च यः पठेत् ।तस्य नागभयं नास्ति तस्य वंशोद्भवस्य च ॥ 15 ॥idaṃ stōtraṃ puṇyabījaṃ tāṃ sampūjya cha yaḥ paṭhēt ।tasya nāgabhayaṃ nāsti tasya vaṃśōdbhavasya cha ॥ 15 ॥meaning
Whoever worships her and then recites this stotra, which is the seed of merit—for him and for his lineage there will be no fear of serpents.
- verse 16विषं भवेत्सुधातुल्यं सिद्धस्तोत्रं यदा पठेत् ।पञ्चलक्षजपेनैव सिद्धस्तोत्रो भवेन्नरः ।सर्पशायी भवेत्सोऽपि निश्चितं सर्पवाहनः ॥ 16 ॥viṣaṃ bhavētsudhātulyaṃ siddhastōtraṃ yadā paṭhēt ।pañchalakṣajapēnaiva siddhastōtrō bhavēnnaraḥ ।sarpaśāyī bhavētsō'pi niśchitaṃ sarpavāhanaḥ ॥ 16 ॥meaning
Poison will become equal to nectar when he recites the perfected stotra; by the recitation of five lakh times the stotra becomes perfected for a man; even one sleeping among serpents will be safe.

Colophon: Thus ends the Sri Manasa Devi Stotram composed by Mahendra (Indra), from the forty-sixth chapter of the Prakriti Khanda of the Sri Brahma Vaivarta Mahapurana. Manasa Devi is the goddess of serpents, born of the mind of Shiva.

Astika's mantra: O serpent, depart, may you be blessed; go away, O great-poisoned one; remember the words of Astika at Janamejaya's sacrifice.
