- verse 1ध्यानम्शवारूढां महाभीमां घोरदंष्ट्रां वरप्रदांहास्ययुक्तां त्रिणेत्राञ्च कपाल कर्त्रिका कराम् ।मुक्तकेशीं ललज्जिह्वां पिबन्तीं रुधिरं मुहुःचतुर्बाहुयुतां देवीं वराभयकरां स्मरेत् ॥dhyānamśavārūḍhāṃ mahābhīmāṃ ghōradaṃṣṭrāṃ varapradāṃhāsyayuktāṃ triṇētrāñcha kapāla kartrikā karām ।muktakēśīṃ lalajjihvāṃ pibantīṃ rudhiraṃ muhuḥchaturbāhuyutāṃ dēvīṃ varābhayakarāṃ smarēt ॥meaning
(Dhyana): mounted on a corpse, greatly fearsome, with terrible fangs, granting boons, smiling, three-eyed, holding a skull-cup and knife — she is Shiva.

Mounted on a corpse, greatly fearsome, with dreadful fangs and a laughing face, four-armed holding a sword, severed head, boon, and shelter — the auspicious one, with garland of skulls.

(Stotra): O sustainer of the universe, O bearer of the world, O cause of its sustaining and dissolution — O incomparable power of Vishnu's sleep, O blessed Goddess.

You are svaha, you are svadha, you are the vashat-cry, you are the very self of sound — you are the nectar, eternal and imperishable, dwelling in the three matras.

The half-matra standing eternally, beyond all particular utterance — you alone are Sandhya, Savitri, you are the supreme mother-goddess.

By you this universe is sustained, by you this world is created; by you it is protected, O Devi, and you consume it always.

At creation you are the form of creation; at preservation you are the form of preservation; at dissolution at the end of the world you are the form of dissolution — O world-self.

You are the great knowledge, the great illusion, the great intellect, the great memory, the great delusion — you are the great goddess, the great sovereign.

You are Shri, you are Ishvari, you are Hri, you are intellect marked by discernment; you are modesty, nourishment, satisfaction, peace, and forbearance.

Armed with sword, spear, club, discus, conch, bow, arrows, sling, and iron bar — you are terrible.

Whatever exists anywhere, whatever thing is existent or non-existent, O soul of all — of all that, the power is you — how then can you be praised?
- verse 14यया त्वया जगत्स्रष्टा जगत्पात्यत्ति यो जगत् ।सोऽपि निद्रावशं नीतः कस्त्वां स्तोतुमिहेश्वरः ॥ 12 ॥yayā tvayā jagatsraṣṭā jagatpātyatti yō jagat ।sō'pi nidrāvaśaṃ nītaḥ kastvāṃ stōtumihēśvaraḥ ॥ 12 ॥meaning
By you the creator of the world, who sustains and consumes it, has been drawn into sleep — who then is capable of praising you here?
- verse 15विष्णुः शरीरग्रहणमहमीशान एव च ।कारितास्ते यतोऽतस्त्वां कः स्तोतुं शक्तिमान् भवेत् ॥ 13 ॥viṣṇuḥ śarīragrahaṇamahamīśāna ēva cha ।kāritāstē yatō'tastvāṃ kaḥ stōtuṃ śaktimān bhavēt ॥ 13 ॥meaning
Vishnu, I, and Ishana have been caused by you to take bodies — who therefore is capable of praising you?
- verse 16सा त्वमित्थं प्रभावैः स्वैरुदारैर्देवि संस्तुता ।मोहयैतौ दुराधर्षावसुरौ मधुकैटभौ ॥ 14 ॥sā tvamitthaṃ prabhāvaiḥ svairudārairdēvi saṃstutā ।mōhayaitau durādharṣāvasurau madhukaiṭabhau ॥ 14 ॥meaning
O Devi, so praised with your own noble powers, delude these two indestructible demons Madhu and Kaitabha.
