- verse 1ध्यानम्उमाकान्ते रमाकान्ते एषामासी-न्मतिस्समा ।नमामि दीक्षितेन्द्रां स्तान् नयषट्क-विशारदाम् ॥dhyānamumākāntē ramākāntē ēṣāmāsī-nmatissamā ।namāmi dīkṣitēndrāṃ stān nayaṣaṭka-viśāradām ॥meaning
Dhyana (visualization): The composer meditates on the divine, praising one whose intellect stood equal before the consort of Uma (Shiva) and the consort of Rama (Vishnu). He bows to the Dikshitendra — the noble initiated one — who is expert in the sixfold path of wisdom and righteous conduct.
- verse 2वेधोहरीश्वरस्तुत्यां विहर्त्रीं विन्ध्यभूधरे ।हरप्राणेश्वरीं वन्दे हन्त्रीं विबुधविद्विषाम् ॥ 1 ॥vēdhōharīśvarastutyāṃ vihartrīṃ vindhyabhūdharē ।haraprāṇēśvarīṃ vandē hantrīṃ vibudhavidviṣām ॥ 1 ॥meaning
I salute the Goddess who is adored by Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, who sports on the Vindhya mountain, who is the very life of Hara, and who destroys the enemies of the gods.

At the request of Brahma she arose, abandoning her sport of closing the eyes of the gods, as the Ishvari of the universe, to remove calamity; may that mother who slew Madhu and Kaitabha stand before me.

When the powers of the gods exhausted in battle merged into one—she arose to protect all the worlds, armed with the weapons of all the gods; may that slayer of Mahisha stand before me.

The daughter of the snow-mountain, her body beautiful as the blue lotus just risen from the water, Narayani, the wish-granting creeper for those who bow—may the slayer of Shumbha and Nishumbha bring me delight.

By the names Vishveshvari, Mahishamardini and Narayani—the hymns seen by Brahma and the divine seers and sung through Agni's mouth—I worship that auspicious one.

Her hymns of birth, slaying of demons and praise are the protectors of all beings; the knowers of the Vedas' end recite them—I worship that mother of the universe without ceasing.

The hymn seen by Brahma and others, which Suratha and Samadhi recited in turn verse by verse, through whose grace both of them attained incomparably the desired objects—I bow at the feet of that primeval divine maiden.

She who revealed her various incarnation-forms to slay the demon Ruru born of Mahishmati and to destroy ninety-eight and nine-hundred crore (demons)—may Amba always protect me from dangers.

This whose entire story, written or installed in a home and worshipped, ferries across all difficulties however impassable and bestows all prosperity—I worship that Uma.

Through whose worship, praise and salutation even the three—Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva—are pleased and bestow bodies endowed with their own qualities—that young consort of the Lord I take as refuge.
- verse 13कान्तारमध्यदृढलग्नतयाऽवसन्नाःमग्नाश्च वारिधिजले रिपुभिश्च रुद्धाः ।यस्याः प्रपद्य चरणौ विपदस्तरन्तिसा मे सदाऽस्तु हृदि सर्वजगत्सवित्री ॥ 12 ॥kāntāramadhyadṛḍhalagnatayā'vasannāḥmagnāścha vāridhijalē ripubhiścha ruddhāḥ ।yasyāḥ prapadya charaṇau vipadastarantisā mē sadā'stu hṛdi sarvajagatsavitrī ॥ 12 ॥meaning
Those who, exhausted and sunk in the water of the ocean, or hemmed in by enemies, take refuge at her feet cross over all dangers—may that giver of life to all the worlds always dwell in my heart.

When great bondage, violent death, when loss of wealth, various great afflictions—those who perform worship at her feet here are declared as the remedy—may that mother of all, Bhavani, be my refuge.
- verse 15बाणासुरप्रहितपन्नगबन्धमोक्षःतद्बाहुदर्पदलनादुषया च योगः ।प्राद्युम्निना द्रुतमलभ्यत यत्प्रसादात्सा मे शिवा सकलमप्यशुभं क्षिणोतु ॥ 14 ॥bāṇāsuraprahitapannagabandhamōkṣaḥtadbāhudarpadalanāduṣayā cha yōgaḥ ।prādyumninā drutamalabhyata yatprasādātsā mē śivā sakalamapyaśubhaṃ kṣiṇōtu ॥ 14 ॥meaning
Pradyumna quickly obtained freedom from the serpent-bond shot by Banasura and the destruction of Bana's pride and union with Usha—through whose grace; may that auspicious one destroy all my inauspiciousness.

The sinful son of Pulastya (Ravana), risen again, 'even today this one has come to take me'—when Indira (Sita) spoke thus, the fear was dispelled by worshipping her—to that primeval divine maiden I have taken refuge.
- verse 17यद्ध्यानजं सुखमवाप्यमनन्तपुण्यैःसाक्षात्तमच्युत परिग्रहमाश्ववापुः ।गोपाङ्गनाः किल यदर्चनपुण्यमात्राःसा मे सदा भगवती भवतु प्रसन्ना ॥ 16 ॥yaddhyānajaṃ sukhamavāpyamanantapuṇyaiḥsākṣāttamachyuta parigrahamāśvavāpuḥ ।gōpāṅganāḥ kila yadarchanapuṇyamātrāḥsā mē sadā bhagavatī bhavatu prasannā ॥ 16 ॥meaning
The gopis, merely by the merit of worshipping her, attained as body the very Achyuta whose bliss is gained only through endless merit—may that Bhagavati always be gracious to me.
- verse 18रात्रिं प्रपद्य इति मन्त्रविदः प्रपन्नान्उद्बोध्य मृत्युवधिमन्यफलैः प्रलोभ्य ।बुद्ध्वा च तद्विमुखतां प्रतनं नयन्तींआकाशमादिजननीं जगतां भजे ताम् ॥ 17 ॥rātriṃ prapadya iti mantravidaḥ prapannānudbōdhya mṛtyuvadhimanyaphalaiḥ pralōbhya ।buddhvā cha tadvimukhatāṃ pratanaṃ nayantīṃākāśamādijananīṃ jagatāṃ bhajē tām ॥ 17 ॥meaning
She who awakens those who take refuge in night-wisdom, lures them with fruits other than death-giving liberation, and knowing their aversion leads them to Brahma—I worship that primeval mother of the worlds.
- verse 19देशकालेषु दुष्टेषु दुर्गाचन्द्रकलास्तुतिः ।सन्ध्ययोरनुसन्धेया सर्वापद्विनिवृत्तये ॥ 18 ॥dēśakālēṣu duṣṭēṣu durgāchandrakalāstutiḥ ।sandhyayōranusandhēyā sarvāpadvinivṛttayē ॥ 18 ॥meaning
(Phalashruti) This Durga-chandrakala-stuti should be meditated upon at both twilights in troubled times and places—it removes all calamities.
