• verse 1

  त्रिदिववर्धकिवर्धितकौशलं त्रिदशदत्तसमस्तविभूतिमत् ।जलधिमध्यगतं त्वमभूषयो नवपुरं वपुरञ्चितरोचिषा ॥1॥

  ददुषि रेवतभूभृति रेवतीं हलभृते तनयां विधिशासनात् ।महितमुत्सवघोषमपूपुषः समुदितैर्मुदितैः सह यादवैः ॥2॥

  अथ विदर्भसुतां खलु रुक्मिणीं प्रणयिनीं त्वयि देव सहोदरः ।स्वयमदित्सत चेदिमहीभुजे स्वतमसा तमसाधुमुपाश्रयन् ॥3॥

  atha vidarbhasutāṃ khalu rukmiṇīṃ praṇayinīṃ tvayi dēva sahōdaraḥ ।svayamaditsata chēdimahībhujē svatamasā tamasādhumupāśrayan ॥3॥

  meaning

  Then Rukmini, the daughter of Vidarbha, who loved you devotedly, O God — her own brother himself was about to give her to the king of Chedi, taking shelter in darkness within darkness.

  चिरधृतप्रणया त्वयि बालिका सपदि काङ्क्षितभङ्गसमाकुला ।तव निवेदयितुं द्विजमादिशत् स्वकदनं कदनङ्गविनिर्मितम् ॥4॥

  chiradhṛtapraṇayā tvayi bālikā sapadi kāṅkṣitabhaṅgasamākulā ।tava nivēdayituṃ dvijamādiśat svakadanaṃ kadanaṅgavinirmitam ॥4॥

  meaning

  The young girl, long given over to love for you, was immediately overwhelmed by the shattering of her hope; she sent a brahmin to inform you of her own distress, the torment fashioned by Manmatha.

  द्विजसुतोऽपि च तूर्णमुपाययौ तव पुरं हि दुराशदुरासदम् ।मुदमवाप च सादरपूजितः स भवता भवतापहृता स्वयम् ॥5॥

  dvijasutō'pi cha tūrṇamupāyayau tava puraṃ hi durāśadurāsadam ।mudamavāpa cha sādarapūjitaḥ sa bhavatā bhavatāpahṛtā svayam ॥5॥

  meaning

  The brahmin's son too came quickly to your city which is difficult of access for those with base longings; he received respectful worship and by your own self the sorrow was removed from him.

  स च भवन्तमवोचत कुण्डिने नृपसुता खलु राजति रुक्मिणी ।त्वयि समुत्सुकया निजधीरतारहितया हि तया प्रहितोऽस्म्यहम् ॥6॥

  sa cha bhavantamavōchata kuṇḍinē nṛpasutā khalu rājati rukmiṇī ।tvayi samutsukayā nijadhīratārahitayā hi tayā prahitō'smyaham ॥6॥

  meaning

  He told you: 'In Kundina the king's daughter Rukmini blazes forth; sent to you by her who was in longing for you, who had lost her composure, I have come.'

• verse 7

  तव हृताऽस्मि पुरैव गुणैरहं हरति मां किल चेदिनृपोऽधुना ।अयि कृपालय पालय मामिति प्रजगदे जगदेकपते तया ॥7॥

  tava hṛtā'smi puraiva guṇairahaṃ harati māṃ kila chēdinṛpō'dhunā ।ayi kṛpālaya pālaya māmiti prajagadē jagadēkapatē tayā ॥7॥

  meaning

  'I was captivated by your qualities formerly — now the king of Chedi is carrying me away; O compassionate one, protect and guard me' — so she spoke to you, O sole Lord of the world.

• verse 8

  अशरणां यदि मां त्वमुपेक्षसे सपदि जीवितमेव जहाम्यहम् ।इति गिरा सुतनोरतनोत् भृशं सुहृदयं हृदयं तव कातरम् ॥8॥

  aśaraṇāṃ yadi māṃ tvamupēkṣasē sapadi jīvitamēva jahāmyaham ।iti girā sutanōratanōt bhṛśaṃ suhṛdayaṃ hṛdayaṃ tava kātaram ॥8॥

  meaning

  'If you abandon me who has no other refuge, I shall then immediately give up this very life' — by these words she deeply agitated your tender heart.

• verse 9

  अकथयस्त्वमथैनमये सखे तदधिका मम मन्मथवेदना ।नृपसमक्षमुपेत्य हराम्यहं तदयि तां दयितामसितेक्षणाम् ॥9॥

  akathayastvamathainamayē sakhē tadadhikā mama manmathavēdanā ।nṛpasamakṣamupētya harāmyahaṃ tadayi tāṃ dayitāmasitēkṣaṇām ॥9॥

  You told him: 'O friend, my affliction over that dark-eyed one is even greater; I shall come and steal her away right before the king' — thus you said.

  प्रमुदितेन च तेन समं तदा रथगतो लघु कुण्डिनमेयिवान् ।गुरुमरुत्पुरनायक मे भवान् वितनुतां तनुतां निखिलापदाम् ॥10॥
