• verse 1

  उपयातानां सुदृशां कुसुमायुधबाणपातविवशानाम् ।अभिवाञ्छितं विधातुं कृतमतिरपि ता जगाथ वाममिव ॥1॥

  ---

  upayātānāṃ sudṛśāṃ kusumāyudhabāṇapātavivaśānām ।abhivāñChitaṃ vidhātuṃ kṛtamatirapi tā jagātha vāmamiva ॥1॥

  meaning

  You resolved to fulfil the desires of those women who came to you, pierced by the arrows of the god of love, helpless and surrendered.

• verse 2

  गगनगतं मुनिनिवहं श्रावयितुं जगिथ कुलवधूधर्मम् ।धर्म्यं खलु ते वचनं कर्म तु नो निर्मलस्य विश्वास्यम् ॥2॥

  gaganagataṃ muninivahaṃ śrāvayituṃ jagitha kulavadhūdharmam ।dharmyaṃ khalu tē vachanaṃ karma tu nō nirmalasya viśvāsyam ॥2॥

  meaning

  In order to be heard by the assembled sages in the sky, you declared to them the duty of a clan-wife — yet your words were righteous while your actions were otherwise.

• verse 3

  आकर्ण्य ते प्रतीपां वाणीमेणीदृशः परं दीनाः ।मा मा करुणासिन्धो परित्यजेत्यतिचिरं विलेपुस्ताः ॥3॥

  ākarṇya tē pratīpāṃ vāṇīmēṇīdṛśaḥ paraṃ dīnāḥ ।mā mā karuṇāsindhō parityajētyatichiraṃ vilēpustāḥ ॥3॥

  meaning

  Hearing your contrary words, the doe-eyed women became utterly desolate and wept for a long time, crying 'Do not abandon us, O ocean of compassion!'

  तासां रुदितैर्लपितैः करुणाकुलमानसो मुरारे त्वम् ।ताभिस्समं प्रवृत्तो यमुनापुलिनेषु काममभिरन्तुम् ॥4॥

  tāsāṃ ruditairlapitaiḥ karuṇākulamānasō murārē tvam ।tābhissamaṃ pravṛttō yamunāpulinēṣu kāmamabhirantum ॥4॥

  meaning

  O Murari, your heart was moved to compassion by their weeping and pleading; you joined them and moved with them on the banks of the Yamuna, fulfilling all desires.

• verse 5

  चन्द्रकरस्यन्दलसत्सुन्दरयमुनातटान्तवीथीषु ।गोपीजनोत्तरीयैरापादितसंस्तरो न्यषीदस्त्वम् ॥5॥

  chandrakarasyandalasatsundarayamunātaṭāntavīthīṣu ।gōpījanōttarīyairāpāditasaṃstarō nyaṣīdastvam ॥5॥

  meaning

  On the banks of the Yamuna, beautiful in the moonlight, you sat upon a bower fashioned from the upper garments of the gopi women.

  सुमधुरनर्मालपनैः करसङ्ग्रहणैश्च चुम्बनोल्लासैः ।गाढालिङ्गनसङ्गैस्त्वमङ्गनालोकमाकुलीचकृषे ॥6॥

  sumadhuranarmālapanaiḥ karasaṅgrahaṇaiścha chumbanōllāsaiḥ ।gāḍhāliṅganasaṅgaistvamaṅganālōkamākulīchakṛṣē ॥6॥

  meaning

  With very sweet playful conversations, with holding of hands, with the delight of kisses, with close embraces — you enchanted the entire world of women.

• verse 7

  वासोहरणदिने यद्वासोहरणं प्रतिश्रुतं तासाम् ।तदपि विभो रसविवशस्वान्तानां कान्त सुभ्रुवामदधाः ॥7॥

  vāsōharaṇadinē yadvāsōharaṇaṃ pratiśrutaṃ tāsām ।tadapi vibhō rasavivaśasvāntānāṃ kānta subhruvāmadadhāḥ ॥7॥

  meaning

  On the day of the robe-stealing, the promise you had made to those women about reclaiming their garments — O lord, you now fulfilled it for them who were intoxicated with the mood of love.

• verse 8

  कन्दलितघर्मलेशं कुन्दमृदुस्मेरवक्त्रपाथोजम् ।नन्दसुत त्वां त्रिजगत्सुन्दरमुपगूह्य नन्दिता बालाः ॥8॥

  ---

  kandalitagharmalēśaṃ kundamṛdusmēravaktrapāthōjam ।nandasuta tvāṃ trijagatsundaramupagūhya nanditā bālāḥ ॥8॥

  meaning

  O son of Nanda, the most beautiful in the three worlds, your lotus-face soft and fragrant with the rasa-dance, your chest touched by the slight perspiration of the dance — gladdened the gopis.

• verse 9

  विरहेष्वङ्गारमयः शृङ्गारमयश्च सङ्गमे हि त्वम् नितरामङ्गारमयस्तत्र पुनस्सङ्गमेऽपि चित्रमिदम् ॥9॥

  ---

  virahēṣvaṅgāramayaḥ śṛṅgāramayaścha saṅgamē hi tvam nitarāmaṅgāramayastatra punassaṅgamē'pi chitramidam ॥9॥

  meaning

  In separation from you they are as burning coals; in union with you they are full of love; and even in reunion, O wonder, they still burn with longing — such is the mystery of divine love.

  राधातुङ्गपयोधरसाधुपरीरम्भलोलुपात्मानम् ।आराधये भवन्तं पवनपुराधीश शमय सकलगदान् ॥10॥

  rādhātuṅgapayōdharasādhuparīrambhalōlupātmānam ।ārādhayē bhavantaṃ pavanapurādhīśa śamaya sakalagadān ॥10॥

  meaning

  O lord of Guruvayur, you who are eager to embrace the high breast of Radha — I worship you; O destroyer of all diseases, bring peace to me.
