- verse 1कदाचिद्गोपालान् विहितमखसम्भारविभवान्निरीक्ष्य त्वं शौरे मघवमदमुद्ध्वंसितुमनाः ।विजानन्नप्येतान् विनयमृदु नन्दादिपशुपा-नपृच्छः को वाऽयं जनक भवतामुद्यम इति ॥1॥kadāchidgōpālān vihitamakhasambhāravibhavānnirīkṣya tvaṃ śaurē maghavamadamuddhvaṃsitumanāḥ ।vijānannapyētān vinayamṛdu nandādipaśupā-napṛchChaḥ kō vā'yaṃ janaka bhavatāmudyama iti ॥1॥meaning
On one occasion, O Shouri, seeing the cowherds occupied with the preparations of a sacrifice, you resolved in your mind to break Indra's arrogance; knowing all this yet feigning ignorance, with gentle humility you asked Nanda and the other cowherds.

Having heard your words, those cowherds, filled with great regard, worshipped the brahmanas and offered an abundant tribute to the lord of the mountain.

And you spoke to them thus: "Is anything I have said untrue? This mountain lord himself partakes of his tribute directly in his own body; this clan is named Gotra (the mountain) — and if Gotra's enemy becomes angry, this mountain will protect us."
