• verse 1

  ततश्च वृन्दावनतोऽतिदूरतोवनं गतस्त्वं खलु गोपगोकुलैः ।हृदन्तरे भक्ततरद्विजाङ्गना-कदम्बकानुग्रहणाग्रहं वहन् ॥1॥

  tataścha vṛndāvanatō'tidūratōvanaṃ gatastvaṃ khalu gōpagōkulaiḥ ।hṛdantarē bhaktataradvijāṅganā-kadambakānugrahaṇāgrahaṃ vahan ॥1॥

  meaning

  Then, going far from Vrindavana with the gopas and their cattle, you entered a forest carrying in your heart a deep desire to bestow grace on the devoted wives of the Brahmins.

• verse 2

  ततो निरीक्ष्याशरणे वनान्तरेकिशोरलोकं क्षुधितं तृषाकुलम् ।अदूरतो यज्ञपरान् द्विजान् प्रतिव्यसर्जयो दीदिवियाचनाय तान् ॥2॥

  tatō nirīkṣyāśaraṇē vanāntarēkiśōralōkaṃ kṣudhitaṃ tṛṣākulam ।adūratō yajñaparān dvijān prativyasarjayō dīdiviyāchanāya tān ॥2॥

  meaning

  Then, seeing in that unprotected forest the young boys hungry and tormented by thirst, you sent them to the nearby Brahmins engaged in sacrifice to beg for food.

  गतेष्वथो तेष्वभिधाय तेऽभिधांकुमारकेष्वोदनयाचिषु प्रभो ।श्रुतिस्थिरा अप्यभिनिन्युरश्रुतिंन किञ्चिदूचुश्च महीसुरोत्तमाः ॥3॥

  gatēṣvathō tēṣvabhidhāya tē'bhidhāṃkumārakēṣvōdanayāchiṣu prabhō ।śrutisthirā apyabhininyuraśrutiṃna kiñchidūchuścha mahīsurōttamāḥ ॥3॥

  meaning

  When those boys went and stated your name while begging for rice, O Lord, even those Brahmins fixed in the scriptures acted contrary to the scriptures and said nothing — those foremost among Brahmins.

• verse 4

  अनादरात् खिन्नधियो हि बालकाः ।समाययुर्युक्तमिदं हि यज्वसु ।चिरादभक्ताः खलु ते महीसुराःकथं हि भक्तं त्वयि तैः समर्प्यते ॥4॥

  anādarāt khinnadhiyō hi bālakāḥ ।samāyayuryuktamidaṃ hi yajvasu ।chirādabhaktāḥ khalu tē mahīsurāḥkathaṃ hi bhaktaṃ tvayi taiḥ samarpyatē ॥4॥

  meaning

  The boys, disappointed by the disrespect, returned — for that was fitting among those sacrificers; those Brahmins had long been without devotion to you; how could what is dear to you be offered by them?

  निवेदयध्वं गृहिणीजनाय मांदिशेयुरन्नं करुणाकुला इमाः ।इति स्मितार्द्रं भवतेरिता गता-स्ते दारका दारजनं ययाचिरे ॥5॥

  nivēdayadhvaṃ gṛhiṇījanāya māṃdiśēyurannaṃ karuṇākulā imāḥ ।iti smitārdraṃ bhavatēritā gatā-stē dārakā dārajanaṃ yayāchirē ॥5॥

  meaning

  You said: 'Go announce me to their wives — those compassionate ones will give food'; thus instructed by you with a gentle smile, those boys went and begged from the women.

• verse 6

  गृहीतनाम्नि त्वयि सम्भ्रमाकुला-श्चतुर्विधं भोज्यरसं प्रगृह्य ताः ।चिरन्धृतत्वत्प्रविलोकनाग्रहाःस्वकैर्निरुद्धा अपि तूर्णमाययुः ॥6॥

  gṛhītanāmni tvayi sambhramākulā-śchaturvidhaṃ bhōjyarasaṃ pragṛhya tāḥ ।chirandhṛtatvatpravilōkanāgrahāḥsvakairniruddhā api tūrṇamāyayuḥ ॥6॥

  meaning

  They, frantic with excitement at hearing your name, took the four kinds of tasty food, and though restrained by their husbands, came quickly, bearing the long-held eager desire to behold you.

  विलोलपिञ्छं चिकुरे कपोलयोःसमुल्लसत्कुण्डलमार्द्रमीक्षिते ।निधाय बाहुं सुहृदंससीमनिस्थितं भवन्तं समलोकयन्त ताः ॥7॥

  vilōlapiñChaṃ chikurē kapōlayōḥsamullasatkuṇḍalamārdramīkṣitē ।nidhāya bāhuṃ suhṛdaṃsasīmanisthitaṃ bhavantaṃ samalōkayanta tāḥ ॥7॥

  meaning

  With the peacock-feather dancing in your curls, with the earring gleaming on your cheeks, with your gaze soft and moist, placing your arm on the shoulder of a companion — they beheld you standing there.

• verse 8

  तदा च काचित्त्वदुपागमोद्यतागृहीतहस्ता दयितेन यज्वना ।तदैव सञ्चिन्त्य भवन्तमञ्जसाविवेश कैवल्यमहो कृतिन्यसौ ॥8॥

  tadā cha kāchittvadupāgamōdyatāgṛhītahastā dayitēna yajvanā ।tadaiva sañchintya bhavantamañjasāvivēśa kaivalyamahō kṛtinyasau ॥8॥

  meaning

  Then one of them, setting out to reach you, was seized by the hand by her devoted husband; at that very moment, meditating upon you instantly, she entered liberation — how blessed she was.

• verse 9

  आदाय भोज्यान्यनुगृह्य ताः पुन-स्त्वदङ्गसङ्गस्पृहयोज्झतीर्गृहम् ।विलोक्य यज्ञाय विसर्जयन्निमा-श्चकर्थ भर्तृनपि तास्वगर्हणान् ॥9॥

  ādāya bhōjyānyanugṛhya tāḥ puna-stvadaṅgasaṅgaspṛhayōjjhatīrgṛham ।vilōkya yajñāya visarjayannimā-śchakartha bhartṛnapi tāsvagarhaṇān ॥9॥

  meaning

  Taking the food offerings and honouring those women again, you sent them back home, their desire to be with you unsatisfied; you also kept those husbands from censuring their wives.

  निरूप्य दोषं निजमङ्गनाजनेविलोक्य भक्तिं च पुनर्विचारिभिःप्रबुद्धतत्त्वैस्त्वमभिष्टुतो द्विजै-र्मरुत्पुराधीश निरुन्धि मे गदान् ॥10॥

  nirūpya dōṣaṃ nijamaṅganājanēvilōkya bhaktiṃ cha punarvichāribhiḥprabuddhatattvaistvamabhiṣṭutō dvijai-rmarutpurādhīśa nirundhi mē gadān ॥10॥

  Seeing their own fault in relation to their wives, and seeing the devotion again, those Brahmins of awakened understanding praised you — O Lord of Guruvayur, remove my diseases. [Phalashruti]
