- verse 1अन्यावतारनिकरेष्वनिरीक्षितं तेभूमातिरेकमभिवीक्ष्य तदाघमोक्षे ।ब्रह्मा परीक्षितुमनाः स परोक्षभावंनिन्येऽथ वत्सकगणान् प्रवितत्य मायाम् ॥1॥anyāvatāranikarēṣvanirīkṣitaṃ tēbhūmātirēkamabhivīkṣya tadāghamōkṣē ।brahmā parīkṣitumanāḥ sa parōkṣabhāvaṃninyē'tha vatsakagaṇān pravitatya māyām ॥1॥meaning
Beholding in you, after the deliverance of Agha, an excess of greatness not seen in any other incarnation, Brahma — wishing to test you, set his secret intent and stretched out his maya over the calf-host.

Not seeing the calves, with the cowherd-children grown helpless — as if intending to bring them back, following the order of the creator, you, with mouth half-full of food, then went; the lotus-born hid the children who had been eating.
- verse 3वत्सायितस्तदनु गोपगणायितस्त्वंशिक्यादिभाण्डमुरलीगवलादिरूपः ।प्राग्वद्विहृत्य विपिनेषु चिराय सायंत्वं माययाऽथ बहुधा व्रजमाययाथ ॥3॥vatsāyitastadanu gōpagaṇāyitastvaṃśikyādibhāṇḍamuralīgavalādirūpaḥ ।prāgvadvihṛtya vipinēṣu chirāya sāyaṃtvaṃ māyayā'tha bahudhā vrajamāyayātha ॥3॥meaning
Then becoming yourself the calves, becoming the cowherd-host, the cooking-pots, the flutes, the buffalo-horns and so on — having sported in the woods all day as before, you came home in the evening, by maya entering Vraja in many forms.
- verse 4त्वामेव शिक्यगवलादिमयं दधानोभूयस्त्वमेव पशुवत्सकबालरूपः ।गोरूपिणीभिरपि गोपवधूमयीभि-रासादितोऽसि जननीभिरतिप्रहर्षात् ॥4॥tvāmēva śikyagavalādimayaṃ dadhānōbhūyastvamēva paśuvatsakabālarūpaḥ ।gōrūpiṇībhirapi gōpavadhūmayībhi-rāsāditō'si jananībhiratipraharṣāt ॥4॥meaning
You yourself bearing the form of pots and horns, you yourself again bearing the form of cattle, calves and children — you were welcomed even by the cow-formed and gopi-formed mothers with the greatest delight.
- verse 5जीवं हि कञ्चिदभिमानवशात्स्वकीयंमत्वा तनूज इति रागभरं वहन्त्यः ।आत्मानमेव तु भवन्तमवाप्य सूनुंप्रीतिं ययुर्न कियतीं वनिताश्च गावः ॥5॥jīvaṃ hi kañchidabhimānavaśātsvakīyaṃmatvā tanūja iti rāgabharaṃ vahantyaḥ ।ātmānamēva tu bhavantamavāpya sūnuṃprītiṃ yayurna kiyatīṃ vanitāścha gāvaḥ ॥5॥meaning
Indeed, those women and cows, having taken some life as their own through the bond of pride, calling him 'son' and bearing love's burden — really gained you yourself as their son, and felt no small joy.
- verse 6एवं प्रतिक्षणविजृम्भितहर्षभार-निश्शेषगोपगणलालितभूरिमूर्तिम् ।त्वामग्रजोऽपि बुबुधे किल वत्सरान्तेब्रह्मात्मनोरपि महान् युवयोर्विशेषः ॥6॥ēvaṃ pratikṣaṇavijṛmbhitaharṣabhāra-niśśēṣagōpagaṇalālitabhūrimūrtim ।tvāmagrajō'pi bubudhē kila vatsarāntēbrahmātmanōrapi mahān yuvayōrviśēṣaḥ ॥6॥meaning
Thus your form, multiplied moment by moment with growing burden of joy, fondled by all the cowherd hosts — even your elder brother (Balarama) at last, after a year, recognized: 'between us two, even though both are great, there is a great difference between Brahman and the soul.'
- verse 7वर्षावधौ नवपुरातनवत्सपालान्दृष्ट्वा विवेकमसृणे द्रुहिणे विमूढे ।प्रादीदृशः प्रतिनवान् मकुटाङ्गदादिभूषांश्चतुर्भुजयुजः सजलाम्बुदाभान् ॥7॥varṣāvadhau navapurātanavatsapālāndṛṣṭvā vivēkamasṛṇē druhiṇē vimūḍhē ।prādīdṛśaḥ pratinavān makuṭāṅgadādibhūṣāṃśchaturbhujayujaḥ sajalāmbudābhān ॥7॥meaning
When at the end of the year Brahma, his discrimination dulled and confused, looked at the new and old calves and herd-boys, you showed him fresh ones with crowns and armlets, four-armed and of dark cloud-color.

Each one with limbs caressed by Lakshmi, reposing on the king-serpent's coiled-bed couch, charming to the eye, with eyes half-closed in sport, served by Sanaka and the other yogins — so the lotus-born saw you.

Beholding the innumerable Narayana-forms, and seeing himself too as a servant in each — the creator's heart was sunk in maya and bewildered, until you became one again, with half the morsel still in your hand.

When the creator's pride was gone and he had bowed many times to you, world-lord, and praised you and gone to his abode — then, entering home with the joyful boys, O lord of Vatalaya, protect me from disease.
