- verse 1तरलमधुकृत् वृन्दे वृन्दावनेऽथ मनोहरेपशुपशिशुभिः साकं वत्सानुपालनलोलुपः ।हलधरसखो देव श्रीमन् विचेरिथ धारयन्गवलमुरलीवेत्रं नेत्राभिरामतनुद्युतिः ॥1॥taralamadhukṛt vṛndē vṛndāvanē'tha manōharēpaśupaśiśubhiḥ sākaṃ vatsānupālanalōlupaḥ ।haladharasakhō dēva śrīman vichēritha dhārayangavalamuralīvētraṃ nētrābhirāmatanudyutiḥ ॥1॥meaning
In the beautiful Vrindavana with restless honeybee crowds, eager to tend the calves with the cowherd boys, you wandered with Balarama as companion, O God, O Lord, wearing a flute, a goad, and a staff, with a lustre of body lovely to the eyes.
- verse 2विहितजगतीरक्षं लक्ष्मीकराम्बुजलालितंददति चरणद्वन्द्वं वृन्दावने त्वयि पावने ।किमिव न बभौ सम्पत्सम्पूरितं तरुवल्लरी-सलिलधरणीगोत्रक्षेत्रादिकं कमलापते ॥2॥vihitajagatīrakṣaṃ lakṣmīkarāmbujalālitaṃdadati charaṇadvandvaṃ vṛndāvanē tvayi pāvanē ।kimiva na babhau sampatsampūritaṃ taruvallarī-saliladharaṇīgōtrakṣētrādikaṃ kamalāpatē ॥2॥meaning
Your sacred feet — which guard the worlds, cherished in Lakshmi's lotus-hands — placed in Vrindavana's sanctifying ground — what did not shine full with prosperity? Trees, vines, waters, earth, cattle, fields — all of it, O Lord of Lakshmi.
- verse 3विलसदुलपे कान्तारान्ते समीरणशीतलेविपुलयमुनातीरे गोवर्धनाचलमूर्धसु ।ललितमुरलीनादः सञ्चारयन् खलु वात्सकंक्वचन दिवसे दैत्यं वत्साकृतिं त्वमुदैक्षथाः ॥3॥vilasadulapē kāntārāntē samīraṇaśītalēvipulayamunātīrē gōvardhanāchalamūrdhasu ।lalitamuralīnādaḥ sañchārayan khalu vātsakaṃkvachana divasē daityaṃ vatsākṛtiṃ tvamudaikṣathāḥ ॥3॥meaning
Among the rustling tall kusha grass, at the cool breeze-blown edge of the great Yamuna, on the ridges of Govardhana hill, you sweetly played the flute spreading the calf-herd everywhere; one day you spied a demon in the form of a calf.
- verse 4रभसविलसत्पुच्छं विच्छायतोऽस्य विलोकयन्किमपि वलितस्कन्धं रन्ध्रप्रतीक्षमुदीक्षितम् ।तमथ चरणे बिभ्रद्विभ्रामयन् मुहुरुच्चकैःकुहचन महावृक्षे चिक्षेपिथ क्षतजीवितम् ॥4॥rabhasavilasatpuchChaṃ vichChāyatō'sya vilōkayankimapi valitaskandhaṃ randhrapratīkṣamudīkṣitam ।tamatha charaṇē bibhradvibhrāmayan muhuruchchakaiḥkuhachana mahāvṛkṣē chikṣēpitha kṣatajīvitam ॥4॥meaning
Watching him wag his tail playfully as he moved away from your sight, somehow turning back with drooped shoulder watching for an opportunity — then you seized him by the feet, swung him around again and again high in the air.
- verse 5निपतति महादैत्ये जात्या दुरात्मनि तत्क्षणंनिपतनजवक्षुण्णक्षोणीरुहक्षतकानने ।दिवि परिमिलत् वृन्दा वृन्दारकाः कुसुमोत्करैःशिरसि भवतो हर्षाद्वर्षन्ति नाम तदा हरे ॥5॥nipatati mahādaityē jātyā durātmani tatkṣaṇaṃnipatanajavakṣuṇṇakṣōṇīruhakṣatakānanē ।divi parimilat vṛndā vṛndārakāḥ kusumōtkaraiḥśirasi bhavatō harṣādvarṣanti nāma tadā harē ॥5॥meaning
When the great demon of evil nature fell — in that instant, at the impact of the falling blow the crushed trees of the forest were destroyed; the multitude of gods gathered in heaven showered flower-clusters joyfully on your head.
- verse 6सुरभिलतमा मूर्धन्यूर्ध्वं कुतः कुसुमावलीनिपतति तवेत्युक्तो बालैः सहेलमुदैरयः ।झटिति दनुजक्षेपेणोर्ध्वं गतस्तरुमण्डलात्कुसुमनिकरः सोऽयं नूनं समेति शनैरिति ॥6॥surabhilatamā mūrdhanyūrdhvaṃ kutaḥ kusumāvalīnipatati tavētyuktō bālaiḥ sahēlamudairayaḥ ।jhaṭiti danujakṣēpēṇōrdhvaṃ gatastarumaṇḍalātkusumanikaraḥ sō'yaṃ nūnaṃ samēti śanairiti ॥6॥meaning
Asked by the boys 'from where did this flower-garland fall on your head?' you said playfully: that cluster of flowers that had been hurled upward by the demon's throw went up from the tree-grove and is now coming down.
- verse 7क्वचन दिवसे भूयो भूयस्तरे परुषातपेतपनतनयापाथः पातुं गता भवदादयः ।चलितगरुतं प्रेक्षामासुर्बकं खलु विस्म्रृतंक्षितिधरगरुच्छेदे कैलासशैलमिवापरम् ॥7॥kvachana divasē bhūyō bhūyastarē paruṣātapētapanatanayāpāthaḥ pātuṃ gatā bhavadādayaḥ ।chalitagarutaṃ prēkṣāmāsurbakaṃ khalu vismrṛtaṃkṣitidharagaruchChēdē kailāsaśailamivāparam ॥7॥meaning
One day again in intense scorching heat as Balarama and the others went to drink the water of the Yamuna — they spotted the crane there, which had been forgotten — huge as Kailasha mountain when its wings spread.
- verse 8पिबति सलिलं गोपव्राते भवन्तमभिद्रुतःस किल निगिलन्नग्निप्रख्यं पुनर्द्रुतमुद्वमन् ।दलयितुमगात्त्रोट्याः कोट्या तदाऽऽशु भवान् विभोखलजनभिदाचुञ्चुश्चञ्चू प्रगृह्य ददार तम् ॥8॥pibati salilaṃ gōpavrātē bhavantamabhidrutaḥsa kila nigilannagniprakhyaṃ punardrutamudvaman ।dalayitumagāttrōṭyāḥ kōṭyā tadā''śu bhavān vibhōkhalajanabhidāchuñchuśchañchū pragṛhya dadāra tam ॥8॥meaning
The crane swallowed him who was running among the cowherds — he blazing as fire was quickly vomited out; the crane came to tear him with its beak — but you, O Lord, split that beak in two, you who are sharp at destroying the wicked.
- verse 9सपदि सहजां सन्द्रष्टुं वा मृतां खलु पूतना-मनुजमघमप्यग्रे गत्वा प्रतीक्षितुमेव वा ।शमननिलयं याते तस्मिन् बके सुमनोगणेकिरति सुमनोवृन्दं वृन्दावनात् गृहमैयथाः ॥9॥sapadi sahajāṃ sandraṣṭuṃ vā mṛtāṃ khalu pūtanā-manujamaghamapyagrē gatvā pratīkṣitumēva vā ।śamananilayaṃ yātē tasmin bakē sumanōgaṇēkirati sumanōvṛndaṃ vṛndāvanāt gṛhamaiyathāḥ ॥9॥meaning
Was it to immediately meet his sister Putana now dead, or to go ahead and await the arrival of Agha the demon too in the abode of Yama — when that demon bird had gone to the realm of death, a crowd of gods showered a rain of flowers from Vrindavana.

Hearing from afar the lovely sound of your flute, the young women quickly came near and saw you standing there with heightened joy; you made your mother and Nanda rejoice — you who dwell in the famous abode of the wind-god — drive away my ailments.
