- verse 1अयि देव पुरा किल त्वयि स्वयमुत्तानशये स्तनन्धये ।परिजृम्भणतो व्यपावृते वदने विश्वमचष्ट वल्लवी ॥1॥ayi dēva purā kila tvayi svayamuttānaśayē stanandhayē ।parijṛmbhaṇatō vyapāvṛtē vadanē viśvamachaṣṭa vallavī ॥1॥meaning
O God, when once you lay on your back as an infant being nursed, a cowherd woman saw the entire universe appear in your yawning mouth.

Then again when you were playing with the other boys, O Lord of the universe, those boys, angry because you had stolen their fruits, told your mother that you had eaten earth.
- verse 3अयि ते प्रलयावधौ विभो क्षितितोयादिसमस्तभक्षिणः ।मृदुपाशनतो रुजा भवेदिति भीता जननी चुकोप सा ॥3॥ayi tē pralayāvadhau vibhō kṣititōyādisamastabhakṣiṇaḥ ।mṛdupāśanatō rujā bhavēditi bhītā jananī chukōpa sā ॥3॥meaning
O Lord of all, she feared that you might suffer stomach pain from eating earth, and being alarmed and angry she scolded you.
- verse 4अयि दुर्विनयात्मक त्वया किमु मृत्सा बत वत्स भक्षिता ।इति मातृगिरं चिरं विभो वितथां त्वं प्रतिजज्ञिषे हसन् ॥4॥ayi durvinayātmaka tvayā kimu mṛtsā bata vatsa bhakṣitā ।iti mātṛgiraṃ chiraṃ vibhō vitathāṃ tvaṃ pratijajñiṣē hasan ॥4॥meaning
'You naughty child! Why have you eaten earth, dear child?' — in response to your mother's words, O Lord, you laughed and denied it for a long time.
- verse 5अयि ते सकलैर्विनिश्चिते विमतिश्चेद्वदनं विदार्यताम् ।इति मातृविभर्त्सितो मुखं विकसत्पद्मनिभं व्यदारयः ॥5॥ayi tē sakalairviniśchitē vimatiśchēdvadanaṃ vidāryatām ।iti mātṛvibhartsitō mukhaṃ vikasatpadmanibhaṃ vyadārayaḥ ॥5॥meaning
'Everyone agrees about this; if you doubt it, let my mouth be opened' — thus taunted by your mother, you opened your lotus-like mouth.
- verse 6अपि मृल्लवदर्शनोत्सुकां जननीं तां बहु तर्पयन्निव ।पृथिवीं निखिलां न केवलं भुवनान्यप्यखिलान्यदीदृशः ॥6॥api mṛllavadarśanōtsukāṃ jananīṃ tāṃ bahu tarpayanniva ।pṛthivīṃ nikhilāṃ na kēvalaṃ bhuvanānyapyakhilānyadīdṛśaḥ ॥6॥meaning
As though satisfying that mother who was eager to see even a speck of earth — you showed her not just the whole earth but all the worlds.
- verse 7कुहचिद्वनमम्बुधिः क्वचित् क्वचिदभ्रं कुहचिद्रसातलम् ।मनुजा दनुजाः क्वचित् सुरा ददृशे किं न तदा त्वदानने ॥7॥kuhachidvanamambudhiḥ kvachit kvachidabhraṃ kuhachidrasātalam ।manujā danujāḥ kvachit surā dadṛśē kiṃ na tadā tvadānanē ॥7॥meaning
Somewhere a forest, somewhere an ocean, somewhere clouds, somewhere the nether world — what was not seen then in your face, O man of men and gods?
- verse 8कलशाम्बुधिशायिनं पुनः परवैकुण्ठपदाधिवासिनम् ।स्वपुरश्च निजार्भकात्मकं कतिधा त्वां न ददर्श सा मुखे ॥8॥kalaśāmbudhiśāyinaṃ punaḥ paravaikuṇṭhapadādhivāsinam ।svapuraścha nijārbhakātmakaṃ katidhā tvāṃ na dadarśa sā mukhē ॥8॥meaning
In your mouth she saw you again reclining on the ocean of milk, again dwelling in the highest Vaikuntha, and again yourself as the very infant before her — how many forms did she see in that face?
- verse 9विकसद्भुवने मुखोदरे ननु भूयोऽपि तथाविधाननः ।अनया स्फुटमीक्षितो भवाननवस्थां जगतां बतातनोत् ॥9॥vikasadbhuvanē mukhōdarē nanu bhūyō'pi tathāvidhānanaḥ ।anayā sphuṭamīkṣitō bhavānanavasthāṃ jagatāṃ batātanōt ॥9॥meaning
And in those worlds expanding in your face-belly, she saw yet another such face again; thus perceived clearly by her, you disclosed the unstable nature of the worlds.
- verse 10धृततत्त्वधियं तदा क्षणं जननीं तां प्रणयेन मोहयन् ।स्तनमम्ब दिशेत्युपासजन् भगवन्नद्भुतबाल पाहि माम् ॥10॥dhṛtatattvadhiyaṃ tadā kṣaṇaṃ jananīṃ tāṃ praṇayēna mōhayan ।stanamamba diśētyupāsajan bhagavannadbhutabāla pāhi mām ॥10॥meaning
Having made your mother, who then understood the truth, briefly deluded again with affection, and drawing her to give you her breast with the words 'Give milk, Mother!' — O wonderful infant Lord, protect me.
