- verse 1व्रजेश्वरैः शौरिवचो निशम्य समाव्रजन्नध्वनि भीतचेताः ।निष्पिष्टनिश्शेषतरुं निरीक्ष्य कञ्चित्पदार्थं शरणं गतस्वाम् ॥1॥vrajēśvaraiḥ śaurivachō niśamya samāvrajannadhvani bhītachētāḥ ।niṣpiṣṭaniśśēṣataruṃ nirīkṣya kañchitpadārthaṃ śaraṇaṃ gatasvām ॥1॥meaning
Hearing the words of the cowherd elders, the one who had fled in fear on the road seeing the completely uprooted tree took refuge in some object. [verse 1]
- verse 2निशम्य गोपीवचनादुदन्तं सर्वेऽपि गोपा भयविस्मयान्धाः ।त्वत्पातितं घोरपिशाचदेहं देहुर्विदूरेऽथ कुठारकृत्तम् ॥2॥niśamya gōpīvachanādudantaṃ sarvē'pi gōpā bhayavismayāndhāḥ ।tvatpātitaṃ ghōrapiśāchadēhaṃ dēhurvidūrē'tha kuṭhārakṛttam ॥2॥meaning
Hearing the account from the gopis, all the gopas, blind with fear and astonishment, gave the terrible demon body you had flung far away to be chopped with axes. [verse 2]

A smoke higher and higher rose from the body purified by your suckling — it raised the question among the elders: is this camphor? sandal? gugulu? [verse 3]
- verse 4मदङ्गसङ्गस्य फलं न दूरे क्षणेन तावत् भवतामपि स्यात् ।इत्युल्लपन् वल्लवतल्लजेभ्यः त्वं पूतनामातनुथाः सुगन्धिम् ॥4॥madaṅgasaṅgasya phalaṃ na dūrē kṣaṇēna tāvat bhavatāmapi syāt ।ityullapan vallavatallajēbhyaḥ tvaṃ pūtanāmātanuthāḥ sugandhim ॥4॥meaning
Laughingly you told the cowherd women: 'The fruit of contact with my body will come to you at once' — and thus you spread fragrance to Putana. [verse 4]
- verse 5चित्रं पिशाच्या न हतः कुमारः चित्रं पुरैवाकथि शौरिणेदम् ।इति प्रशंसन् किल गोपलोको भवन्मुखालोकरसे न्यमाङ्क्षीत् ॥5॥chitraṃ piśāchyā na hataḥ kumāraḥ chitraṃ puraivākathi śauriṇēdam ।iti praśaṃsan kila gōpalōkō bhavanmukhālōkarasē nyamāṅkṣīt ॥5॥meaning
Wonderful that the baby was not slain by the demon woman — wonderful, this was foretold long before by Shouri — thus the gopas praised and fixed their eyes on the delight of your face. [verse 5]
- verse 6दिनेदिनेऽथ प्रतिवृद्धलक्ष्मीरक्षीणमाङ्गल्यशतो व्रजोऽयम् ।भवन्निवासादयि वासुदेव प्रमोदसान्द्रः परितो विरेजे ॥6॥dinēdinē'tha prativṛddhalakṣmīrakṣīṇamāṅgalyaśatō vrajō'yam ।bhavannivāsādayi vāsudēva pramōdasāndraḥ paritō virējē ॥6॥meaning
Day by day this Vraja of ever-increasing glory, with a hundredfold auspiciousness undiminished — by your dwelling here, O Vasudeva, shone on all sides dense with joy. [verse 6]
- verse 7गृहेषु ते कोमलरूपहासमिथःकथासङ्कुलिताः कमन्यः ।वृत्तेषु कृत्येषु भवन्निरीक्षासमागताः प्रत्यहमत्यनन्दन् ॥7॥gṛhēṣu tē kōmalarūpahāsamithaḥkathāsaṅkulitāḥ kamanyaḥ ।vṛttēṣu kṛtyēṣu bhavannirīkṣāsamāgatāḥ pratyahamatyanandan ॥7॥meaning
In the homes the women, their hearts filled with stories of your tender form and beauty, met with mutual tales of you and rejoiced daily in their activities and duties. [verse 7]
- verse 8अहो कुमारो मयि दत्तदृष्टिः स्मितं कृतं मां प्रति वत्सकेन ।एह्येहि मामित्युपसार्य पाणी त्वयीश किं किं न कृतं वधूभिः ॥8॥ahō kumārō mayi dattadṛṣṭiḥ smitaṃ kṛtaṃ māṃ prati vatsakēna ।ēhyēhi māmityupasārya pāṇī tvayīśa kiṃ kiṃ na kṛtaṃ vadhūbhiḥ ॥8॥meaning
Oh, the baby fixed his gaze on me! He smiled at me! He crawled to me, extending both arms — O Isha, what did those cowherd women not do with you? [verse 8]
- verse 9भवद्वपुःस्पर्शनकौतुकेन करात्करं गोपवधूजनेन ।नीतस्त्वमाताम्रसरोजमालाव्यालम्बिलोलम्बतुलामलासीः ॥9॥bhavadvapuḥsparśanakautukēna karātkaraṃ gōpavadhūjanēna ।nītastvamātāmrasarōjamālāvyālambilōlambatulāmalāsīḥ ॥9॥meaning
With the eagerness of touching your body, the cowherd women passed you hand to hand — O Lord, you hung swaying there like a garland of lotuses alternating red and pure. [verse 9]
- verse 10निपाययन्ती स्तनमङ्कगं त्वां विलोकयन्ती वदनं हसन्ती ।दशां यशोदा कतमां न भेजे स तादृशः पाहि हरे गदान्माम् ॥10॥nipāyayantī stanamaṅkagaṃ tvāṃ vilōkayantī vadanaṃ hasantī ।daśāṃ yaśōdā katamāṃ na bhējē sa tādṛśaḥ pāhi harē gadānmām ॥10॥meaning
Yashodaa, nursing you at her breast, gazing at your face, smiling — what state did she not enter? That one thus — O Hari, protect me from disease. [verse 10]
