- verse 1तदनु नन्दममन्दशुभास्पदं नृपपुरीं करदानकृते गतम्।समवलोक्य जगाद भवत्पिता विदितकंससहायजनोद्यमः ॥1॥tadanu nandamamandaśubhāspadaṃ nṛpapurīṃ karadānakṛtē gatam।samavalōkya jagāda bhavatpitā viditakaṃsasahāyajanōdyamaḥ ॥1॥meaning
Then your father, having gone to the king's city as a tribute-payer, saw Nanda filled with auspicious blessings and spoke, recognising the resolve of those who had become Kamsa's allies.

'O friend, the birth of your boy gladdens me today just as my own son's birth; thus he spoke to the Vraja chief, honoring him greatly and extolling him as if a father.'

'Here are a hundred pretexts for staying; leave quickly from the edge of the camp'; hearing his words, the Vraja chief came swiftly out of fear for your safety.

Then at that place, at the right moment, a certain woman of sweet appearance came to the Vraja-town, her hair played over by roving bees — a false infant approaching you.

She was Putana, a night-walker's daughter, who instantly stole the consciousness of the child; for a moment, as the gopi women wondered 'who is this woman?' — she picked you up.

Unable to restrain her, the young women stood enchanted by her lovely graceful manner; she who had settled inside the house pretending affection held you out to the false one.

Fearlessly climbing into her lap, you, angered by the boy-killing, sucked that poisoned breast-mound as if it were a great mango fruit.

As you sucked, taking her very life-breath along, she fell with a sound like thunder, arms outstretched, her terrifying body crashing down.

O lord of Guruvayur, make me well — the gopis, their minds bewildered by the terrifying sound and form of that dreadful cry, found you playing on her chest and gathered you up.

Protected by the young women with many auspicious names, blessed all around — O lord of Guruvayur, make me well, your servant.
