- verse 1प्रीत्या दैत्यस्तव तनुमहःप्रेक्षणात् सर्वथाऽपित्वामाराध्यन्नजित रचयन्नञ्जलिं सञ्जगाद ।मत्तः किं ते समभिलषितं विप्रसूनो वद त्वंवित्तं भक्तं भवनमवनीं वाऽपि सर्वं प्रदास्ये ॥1॥prītyā daityastava tanumahaḥprēkṣaṇāt sarvathā'pitvāmārādhyannajita rachayannañjaliṃ sañjagāda ।mattaḥ kiṃ tē samabhilaṣitaṃ viprasūnō vada tvaṃvittaṃ bhaktaṃ bhavanamavanīṃ vā'pi sarvaṃ pradāsyē ॥1॥meaning
The demon, seeing your magnificent form with great joy, worshipped you with reverence everywhere and said: "What do you desire from me, O son of a brahmin — speak; I will give wealth, devotee, a house, land, or anything at all."
- verse 2तामीक्षणां बलिगिरमुपाकर्ण्य कारुण्यपूर्णोऽ-प्यस्योत्सेकं शमयितुमना दैत्यवंशं प्रशंसन् ।भूमिं पादत्रयपरिमितां प्रार्थयामासिथ त्वंसर्वं देहीति तु निगदिते कस्य हास्यं न वा स्यात् ॥2॥tāmīkṣaṇāṃ baligiramupākarṇya kāruṇyapūrṇō'-pyasyōtsēkaṃ śamayitumanā daityavaṃśaṃ praśaṃsan ।bhūmiṃ pādatrayaparimitāṃ prārthayāmāsitha tvaṃsarvaṃ dēhīti tu nigaditē kasya hāsyaṃ na vā syāt ॥2॥meaning
Though full of compassion, hearing Bali speech, you intended to humble his arrogance — praising the demon lineage, you requested from him just three foot-measures of earth; who would not laugh when he replied "give me everything"?
- verse 3विश्वेशं मां त्रिपदमिह किं याचसे बालिशस्त्वंसर्वां भूमिं वृणु किममुनेत्यालपत्त्वां स दृप्यन् ।यस्माद्दर्पात् त्रिपदपरिपूर्त्यक्षमः क्षेपवादान्बन्धं चासावगमदतदर्होऽपि गाढोपशान्त्यै ॥3॥viśvēśaṃ māṃ tripadamiha kiṃ yāchasē bāliśastvaṃsarvāṃ bhūmiṃ vṛṇu kimamunētyālapattvāṃ sa dṛpyan ।yasmāddarpāt tripadaparipūrtyakṣamaḥ kṣēpavādānbandhaṃ chāsāvagamadatadarhō'pi gāḍhōpaśāntyai ॥3॥meaning
He said boastfully: "You are lord of the universe — why do you ask me for just three feet, foolish one? Take all the earth!" Since through that arrogance he was incapable of filling three steps, to cure his deep arrogance, even though he did not deserve it, he went to bondage.
- verse 4पादत्रय्या यदि न मुदितो विष्टपैर्नापि तुष्ये-दित्युक्तेऽस्मिन् वरद भवते दातुकामेऽथ तोयम् ।दैत्याचार्यस्तव खलु परीक्षार्थिनः प्रेरणात्तंमा मा देयं हरिरयमिति व्यक्तमेवाबभाषे ॥4॥pādatrayyā yadi na muditō viṣṭapairnāpi tuṣyē-dityuktē'smin varada bhavatē dātukāmē'tha tōyam ।daityāchāryastava khalu parīkṣārthinaḥ prēraṇāttaṃmā mā dēyaṃ harirayamiti vyaktamēvābabhāṣē ॥4॥meaning
When asked whether three foot-measures would not please you, nor all the worlds satisfy — and when bali was willing to give water to you who desired to give — Shukra, perceiving your intent to test him, clearly said "do not give, this is Hari".
- verse 5याचत्येवं यदि स भगवान् पूर्णकामोऽस्मि सोऽहंदास्याम्येव स्थिरमिति वदन् काव्यशप्तोऽपि दैत्यः ।विन्ध्यावल्या निजदयितया दत्तपाद्याय तुभ्यंचित्रं चित्रं सकलमपि स प्रार्पयत्तोयपूर्वम् ॥5॥yāchatyēvaṃ yadi sa bhagavān pūrṇakāmō'smi sō'haṃdāsyāmyēva sthiramiti vadan kāvyaśaptō'pi daityaḥ ।vindhyāvalyā nijadayitayā dattapādyāya tubhyaṃchitraṃ chitraṃ sakalamapi sa prārpayattōyapūrvam ॥5॥meaning
The demon said: "If this Lord himself is asking, I am now one whose wishes are fulfilled; I will give nonetheless" — and though cursed by Shukra, even so that demon was poured the gift of water preceded by his beloved Vindhyavalli — what a wonder!
- verse 6निस्सन्देहं दितिकुलपतौ त्वय्यशेषार्पणं तद्-व्यातन्वाने मुमुचुः-ऋषयः सामराः पुष्पवर्षम् ।दिव्यं रूपं तव च तदिदं पश्यतां विश्वभाजा-मुच्चैरुच्चैरवृधदवधीकृत्य विश्वाण्डभाण्डम् ॥6॥nissandēhaṃ ditikulapatau tvayyaśēṣārpaṇaṃ tad-vyātanvānē mumuchuḥ-ṛṣayaḥ sāmarāḥ puṣpavarṣam ।divyaṃ rūpaṃ tava cha tadidaṃ paśyatāṃ viśvabhājā-muchchairuchchairavṛdhadavadhīkṛtya viśvāṇḍabhāṇḍam ॥6॥meaning
When that lord of the Diti line was completing the total surrender to you, sages and gods released a shower of flowers; and your divine form grew beyond measure before the eyes of all the world-dwellers, swelling above the cosmic sphere.

The lotus-born Brahma, with waters from his vessel, bathed the tip of your foot that had come to his own realm — the water by which it was purified, purified all the worlds; in the joy of this celebration the god-army danced and devoted Jambavan drummed the war-drum circling the world.
- verse 8तावद्दैत्यास्त्वनुमतिमृते भर्तुरारब्धयुद्धादेवोपेतैर्भवदनुचरैस्सङ्गता भङ्गमापन् ।कालात्माऽयं वसति पुरतो यद्वशात् प्राग्जिताः स्मःकिं वो युद्धैरिति बलिगिरा तेऽथ पातालमापुः ॥8॥tāvaddaityāstvanumatimṛtē bharturārabdhayuddhādēvōpētairbhavadanucharaissaṅgatā bhaṅgamāpan ।kālātmā'yaṃ vasati puratō yadvaśāt prāgjitāḥ smaḥkiṃ vō yuddhairiti baligirā tē'tha pātālamāpuḥ ॥8॥meaning
Meanwhile the demons, without their master permission, began battle and together with your attendants they were routed; with the voice of Bali they desisted: "Time itself resides before us by whose power we earlier prevailed — what is war good for?" — and they descended to Patala.

To the demon held bound by the great bird, you declared: "Declare the third step — are you not the lord of the universe?" When he tremblingly said "Place your foot on my head, O Lord," Prahlada himself came and reverenced him.
- verse 10दर्पोच्छित्त्यै विहितमखिलं दैत्य सिद्धोऽसि पुण्यै-र्लोकस्तेऽस्तु त्रिदिवविजयी वासवत्वं च पश्चात् ।मत्सायुज्यं भज च पुनरित्यन्वगृह्णा बलिं तंविप्रैस्सन्तानितमखवरः पाहि वातालयेश ॥10॥darpōchChittyai vihitamakhilaṃ daitya siddhō'si puṇyai-rlōkastē'stu tridivavijayī vāsavatvaṃ cha paśchāt ।matsāyujyaṃ bhaja cha punarityanvagṛhṇā baliṃ taṃvipraissantānitamakhavaraḥ pāhi vātālayēśa ॥10॥meaning
To cut down his pride all this has been done; you are fulfilled by meritorious deeds; let the world be yours as conqueror of the heavens, and afterward sovereignty as Indra; and then attain my own union — thus you blessed that Bali; O Lord of Guruvayur, grant protection, your Vedic-sacrifice perfected by brahmins.
