- verse 1प्राचेतसस्तु भगवन्नपरो हि दक्ष-स्त्वत्सेवनं व्यधित सर्गविवृद्धिकामः ।आविर्बभूविथ तदा लसदष्टबाहु-स्तस्मै वरं ददिथ तां च वधूमसिक्नीम् ॥1॥prāchētasastu bhagavannaparō hi dakṣa-stvatsēvanaṃ vyadhita sargavivṛddhikāmaḥ ।āvirbabhūvitha tadā lasadaṣṭabāhu-stasmai varaṃ daditha tāṃ cha vadhūmasiknīm ॥1॥meaning
O Lord, the other Daksha, son of the Prachetas, performed worship of you desiring expansion of creation; you appeared before him with eight radiant arms and granted him a boon and gave him the bride Asikni.

His ten thousand sons, by the words of Narada, went toward your path; the sage, though cursed by Daksha, considered even that curse as your grace, O best among devotees.

From his sixty daughters he produced lineages of beings; from his daughter's daughter was born Vishvarupa, who gave to Indra in battle the armour consisting of your praise — your greatness, O Lord, conquers all.

O Lord, formerly King Chitraketu in the land of Shurasena was without a son; by the power of Angiras he obtained a single son, and then that son was killed by a band of rival wives and Chitraketu fell into bewilderment, overcome by your Maya.
- verse 5तं नारदस्तु सममङ्गिरसा दयालुःसम्प्राप्य तावदुपदर्श्य सुतस्य जीवम् ।कस्यास्मि पुत्र इति तस्य गिरा विमोहंत्यक्त्वा त्वदर्चनविधौ नृपतिं न्ययुङ्क्त ॥5॥taṃ nāradastu samamaṅgirasā dayāluḥsamprāpya tāvadupadarśya sutasya jīvam ।kasyāsmi putra iti tasya girā vimōhaṃtyaktvā tvadarchanavidhau nṛpatiṃ nyayuṅkta ॥5॥meaning
Then the compassionate Narada, coming with Angiras, showed Chitraketu the living spirit of his son; at its words he abandoned his delusion and Narada appointed the king to the worship of you.
- verse 6स्तोत्रं च मन्त्रमपि नारदतोऽथ लब्ध्वातोषाय शेषवपुषो ननु ते तपस्यन् ।विद्याधराधिपतितां स हि सप्तरात्रेलब्ध्वाप्यकुण्ठमतिरन्वभजद्भवन्तम् ॥6॥stōtraṃ cha mantramapi nāradatō'tha labdhvātōṣāya śēṣavapuṣō nanu tē tapasyan ।vidyādharādhipatitāṃ sa hi saptarātrēlabdhvāpyakuṇṭhamatiranvabhajadbhavantam ॥6॥meaning
Receiving both a stotra and a mantra from Narada, Chitraketu performed austerity to please Shesha — your serpent-form; within seven nights he obtained lordship over the Vidyadharas, yet with unwavering devotion he continued to worship you.
- verse 7तस्मै मृणालधवलेन सहस्रशीर्ष्णारूपेण बद्धनुतिसिद्धगणावृतेन ।प्रादुर्भवन्नचिरतो नुतिभिः प्रसन्नोदत्वाऽऽत्मतत्त्वमनुगृह्य तिरोदधाथ ॥7॥tasmai mṛṇāladhavalēna sahasraśīrṣṇārūpēṇa baddhanutisiddhagaṇāvṛtēna ।prādurbhavannachiratō nutibhiḥ prasannōdatvā''tmatattvamanugṛhya tirōdadhātha ॥7॥meaning
To him, within a short time, you appeared in that white lotus-coloured thousand-headed form, surrounded by the hosts of Siddhas who sang your praise; pleased by his hymns you taught him the truth of the Self and bestowed your grace, then disappeared.
- verse 8त्वद्भक्तमौलिरथ सोऽपि च लक्षलक्षंवर्षाणि हर्षुलमना भुवनेषु कामम् ।सङ्गापयन् गुणगणं तव सुन्दरीभिःसङ्गातिरेकरहितो ललितं चचार ॥8॥tvadbhaktamauliratha sō'pi cha lakṣalakṣaṃvarṣāṇi harṣulamanā bhuvanēṣu kāmam ।saṅgāpayan guṇagaṇaṃ tava sundarībhiḥsaṅgātirēkarahitō lalitaṃ chachāra ॥8॥meaning
That foremost devotee of yours, with joyful heart, wandered freely through the worlds for many hundreds of thousands of years, ever singing your qualities in the company of beautiful divine women yet remaining free from excess attachment.

Then, impelled by you to destroy his excessive attachment, he came to a great assembly on the silver mountain and fearlessly embraced and mocked Shiva who was seated holding his beloved in his lap — and was cursed by Uma.

Undisturbed by the curse he had not sought, he assumed the form of Vritra the asura and fought Indra; wondrous it was — in the very battle he removed even his enemy's confusion, narrating the truth of the Self with devotion, and attained your state.

Diti, though intending to destroy Indra, obtained through your worship those who became the Maruts, Indra's friends — even one of evil intention yields an auspicious result through service to you, O Lord of the wind-city; thus are you — protect me.
