    The agnidh priest spreads the sacred grass, prepares the sacrificial cakes and so forth — by gathering the sacrifice that was lost through earlier defeats, the priests bring the whole rite back to its proper footing.

    The soma-drinkers were surrounded; seeking the soma drink among the gods they went and the gods told them to choose two names — so the drinkers became identified by two names and thereby obtained a share in the soma.

    By means of the soma drink the gods drove away the asuras who were in front in the east — what was offered eastward became the divine share, and so the gods conquered the asuras through the sacrificial direction.

    The dhishniyas are truly vital breaths — if the adhvaryu moved away from them the life-breaths would be withdrawn; the sacrificer's life-force would be taken away; hence one does not leave the ritual fires.

    meaning

    Speech should be held in check lest it become impure — so brahmavadins say; while the soma stands in place the adhvaryu should not turn backward, for speech is the vow and the dhishniyas are the guard of speech.
