For victory, the sacrificer shaves hair and trims nails; removing the dead skin he becomes ritually fit; like the Angirases he enters the waters of diksha and gains initiation and austerity.

This is of the nature of all the gods like butter that pleases all when used for anointing; in-between the worlds, butter anoints the sacrificer going with the yajus, reversing Indra's victory over Vritra.

Indra slew Vritra; he was dying from the waters — the meritorious and sacrificial element that departed became darbha grass; purifying with darbha restores what was always present.

The stone is truly the thunderbolt; by striking the soma with the stone he strikes the enemy with the thunderbolt; the butter is a healing medicine — he smears with butter the place struck by the stone, thus applying medicine.

The avabritha bath is prepared — after the soma sacrifice the sacrificer takes the purifying bath that marks the conclusion of the entire soma rite.
