    Agni, made the path, receives the eight-kapala cake offering at new and full moon sacrifices; whoever performs the new and full moon rite establishes him on the path, and Agni himself, enriched by his own share of the oblation, leads that sacrificer both from the path and along the path with a gift of the south—thus Agni the Lord of vows prospers through abundance.

    One who offers an eight-caked oblation to Agni, conducting himself as if under a vow with kindled fire, obtains that vow through Agni as vow-keeper by proceeding with his own share of offering; likewise one who offers an eight-caked oblation to Indra the demon-slayer, moving as Agni the slayer of demons, reaches thus that demon-slaying power by his own portion of offering.

    The oblation with eight cups is offered to Agni the destroyer-of-demons, whose fierce form protects from harm, and to Rudra the fragrant, that cattle and men may be safeguarded.

    When Vaishvānara becomes a twelve-palmed vessel, the year itself becomes Agni; Vaishvānara consumes sin by that year, Varuṇa releases him from Varuṇa's bonds, Dadhikrāvṇ purifies him, gold with southward oblation purifies him, and gold purifies him—thus one should offer these same oblations for the desire of progeny, the year being the vessel.
