- verse 1कदाचित्-कालिन्दी तटविपिन सङ्गीतकरवोमुदाभीरी नारीवदन कमलास्वादमधुपः ।रमा शम्भु ब्रह्मामरपति गणेशार्चित पदोजगन्नाथः स्वामी नयनपथगामी भवतु मे ॥ 1 ॥kadāchit-kālindī taṭavipina saṅgītakaravōmudābhīrī nārīvadana kamalāsvādamadhupaḥ ।ramā śambhu brahmāmarapati gaṇēśārchita padōjagannāthaḥ svāmī nayanapathagāmī bhavatu mē ॥ 1 ॥meaning
Verse 1: May Lord Jagannatha — who once made music on the banks of the Kalindi (Yamuna) in the forest, who like a bee tasted the lotus faces of the joyful cowherd women, whose lotus feet are worshipped by Rama (Lakshmi), Shambhu (Shiva), Brahma, Indra, and Ganesha — become the object of my eyes.

Verse 2: May Jagannatha become the object of my eyes — who holds the flute in his left arm, wears a peacock feather on his head, fine silk at the waist, who bestows sidelong glances to his companions from the corner of his eyes, and whose pastimes are ever celebrated in the beautiful Vrindavana.

Verse 3: May Jagannatha be the object of my eyes — who dwells within the temple on the golden peak near the great ocean, accompanied by his brother Balarama who is strong by nature, with Subhadra in the middle, and who gives the opportunity of service to all the gods.

Verse 4: May Jagannatha be the object of my eyes — whose compassion is an ocean, beautiful like a row of water-filled clouds, whose face shines pure as a lotus inhabited by Rama (speech personified) and Vani (Sarasvati), who is worshipped by Indra and the gods, and whose glories are sung at the crest of the Vedas.
- verse 5रथारूढो गच्छन् पथि मिलित भूदेवपटलैःस्तुति प्रादुर्भावं प्रतिपदमुपाकर्ण्य सदयः ।दयासिन्धुर्बन्धुस्सकल जगता सिन्धुसुतयाजगन्नाथः स्वामी नयनपथगामी भवतु मे ॥ 5 ॥rathārūḍhō gachChan pathi milita bhūdēvapaṭalaiḥstuti prādurbhāvaṃ pratipadamupākarṇya sadayaḥ ।dayāsindhurbandhussakala jagatā sindhusutayājagannāthaḥ svāmī nayanapathagāmī bhavatu mē ॥ 5 ॥meaning
Verse 5: May Jagannatha be the object of my eyes — who rides on the chariot, graciously listening to praises that arise at every step from assemblies of brahmins who crowd the path; who is the ocean of compassion, the kinsman of all the worlds, accompanied by the daughter of the ocean (Lakshmi).

Verse 6: May Jagannatha be the object of my eyes — the crest-jewel of the Supreme Brahman, with eyes blooming like blue lotus petals, dwelling on the Nilachal (Blue Mountain — Puri), with feet resting on Ananta (the infinite serpent), delighting in the essence of spiritual love, the friend in the embrace of Radha's juicy form.
- verse 7न वै याचे राज्यं न च कनक माणिक्य विभवंन याचेऽहं रम्यां निखिलजन-काम्यां वरवधूम् ।सदा काले काले प्रमथ-पतिना गीतचरितोजगन्नाथः स्वामी नयनपथगामी भवतु मे ॥ 7 ॥na vai yāchē rājyaṃ na cha kanaka māṇikya vibhavaṃna yāchē'haṃ ramyāṃ nikhilajana-kāmyāṃ varavadhūm ।sadā kālē kālē pramatha-patinā gītacharitōjagannāthaḥ svāmī nayanapathagāmī bhavatu mē ॥ 7 ॥meaning
Verse 7: I do not ask for a kingdom, nor gold, nor jewels and wealth, nor a beautiful wife desired by all people. May Jagannatha — whose glories are sung by the lord of Pramathas (Shiva) again and again in every moment — be the object of my eyes.
- verse 8हर त्वं संसारं द्रुततरमसारं सुरपतेहर त्वं पापानां विततिमपरां यादवपते ।अहो दीनोऽनाथे निहितचरणो निश्चितमिदंजगन्नाथः स्वामी नयनपथगामी भवतु मे ॥ 8 ॥hara tvaṃ saṃsāraṃ drutataramasāraṃ surapatēhara tvaṃ pāpānāṃ vitatimaparāṃ yādavapatē ।ahō dīnō'nāthē nihitacharaṇō niśchitamidaṃjagannāthaḥ svāmī nayanapathagāmī bhavatu mē ॥ 8 ॥meaning
Verse 8: O lord of the gods, remove this samsara (worldly existence) swiftly — it is without substance! O Yadava-lord, remove the vast multitude of my sins! Alas, I am helpless and without a protector; I have placed my feet (taken refuge) here — it is certain that Jagannatha, my lord, will be the object of my eyes.
- verse 9जगन्नाथाष्टकं पुण्यं यः पठेत् प्रयतः शुचिः ।सर्वपाप विशुद्धात्मा विष्णुलोकं स गच्छति ॥jagannāthāṣṭakaṃ puṇyaṃ yaḥ paṭhēt prayataḥ śuchiḥ ।sarvapāpa viśuddhātmā viṣṇulōkaṃ sa gachChati ॥meaning
Phala-shruti: Whoever reads this holy Jagannatha Ashtakam with discipline and purity, his soul purified of all sins, he will attain the world of Vishnu.
