- verse 1॥ षष्ठः सर्गः ॥॥ कुण्ठवैकुण्ठः ॥॥ ṣaṣṭhaḥ sargaḥ ॥॥ kuṇṭhavaikuṇṭhaḥ ॥meaning
The sixth canto — 'Kuntha Vaikuntha' (Frustrated in Vaikuntha). [chapter heading]

Now seeing Radha long unable to come to him, deep in love, standing in the vine-bower — a sakhi speaks to Govinda about her condition.

She looks in every direction in solitude thinking of you; she sips the honey of your sweet lips — O Natha Hari, O Jagannatha Hari, Radha languishes in her bower. [refrain]
- verse 5त्वदभिसरणरभसेन वलन्ती ।पतति पदानि कियन्ति चलन्ती ॥ 2 ॥tvadabhisaraṇarabhasēna valantī ।patati padāni kiyanti chalantī ॥ 2 ॥meaning
Rushing eagerly to meet you she stumbles forward a few steps. [verse 2]

She makes white lotus-stalk bangles and lives here solely for the joy of union with you. [verse 3]
- verse 7मुहुरवलोकितमण्डनलीला ।मधुरिपुरहमिति भावनशीला ॥ 4 ॥muhuravalōkitamaṇḍanalīlā ।madhuripurahamiti bhāvanaśīlā ॥ 4 ॥meaning
She repeatedly observes her own adornment with the thought: 'It is Madhuripu Hari himself I am adorning for.' [verse 4]
- verse 8त्वरितमुपैति न कथमभिसारम् ।हरिरिति वदति सखीमनुवारम् ॥ 5 ॥tvaritamupaiti na kathamabhisāram ।haririti vadati sakhīmanuvāram ॥ 5 ॥meaning
She does not hurry to the tryst — 'Hari' she tells her sakhi again and again. [verse 5]
- verse 9श्लिष्यति चुम्बति जलधरकल्पम् ।हरिरुपगत इति तिमिरमनल्पम् ॥ 6 ॥śliṣyati chumbati jaladharakalpam ।harirupagata iti timiramanalpam ॥ 6 ॥meaning
She holds a dark mass she mistakes for Hari come — 'Hari has come!' she says of abundant darkness. [verse 6]
- verse 10भवति विलम्बिनि विगलितलज्जा ।विलपति रोदिति वासकसज्जा ॥ 7 ॥bhavati vilambini vigalitalajjā ।vilapati rōditi vāsakasajjā ॥ 7 ॥meaning
As you delay, she who awaits her lover grows shameless, weeping and crying. [verse 7]
- verse 11श्रीजयदेवकवेरिदमुदितम् ।रसिकजनं तनुतामतिमुदितम् ॥ 8 ॥śrījayadēvakavēridamuditam ।rasikajanaṃ tanutāmatimuditam ॥ 8 ॥meaning
This composed by the poet Shri Jayadeva — may it bring delight to those who relish rasa. [verse 8]
- verse 12विपुलपुलकपालिः स्फीतसीत्कारमन्त-र्जनितजडिमकाकुव्याकुलं व्याहरन्ती ।तव कितव विधत्तेऽमन्दकन्दर्पचिन्तां रसजलधिनिमग्ना ध्यानलग्ना मृगाक्षी ॥ 38 ॥vipulapulakapāliḥ sphītasītkāramanta-rjanitajaḍimakākuvyākulaṃ vyāharantī ।tava kitava vidhattē'mandakandarpachintāṃ rasajaladhinimagnā dhyānalagnā mṛgākṣī ॥ 38 ॥meaning
Her body thrilling with dense horseflesh, sighing within, speech faltering and confused with frozen awkwardness — she keeps forming thoughts of you, the deceiver, her eyes submerged in the ocean of rasa, immersed in meditation.
- verse 13अङ्गेष्वाभरणं करोति बहुशः पत्रेऽपि सञ्चारिणि प्राप्तं त्वां परिशङ्कते वितनुते शय्यां चिरं ध्यायति ।इत्याकल्पविकल्पतल्परचनासङ्कल्पलीलाशत-व्यासक्तापि विना त्वया वरतनुर्नैषा निशां नेष्यति ॥ 39 ॥aṅgēṣvābharaṇaṃ karōti bahuśaḥ patrē'pi sañchāriṇi prāptaṃ tvāṃ pariśaṅkatē vitanutē śayyāṃ chiraṃ dhyāyati ।ityākalpavikalpatalparachanāsaṅkalpalīlāśata-vyāsaktāpi vinā tvayā varatanurnaiṣā niśāṃ nēṣyati ॥ 39 ॥meaning
She adorns her limbs repeatedly; when a leaf stirs she imagines you have arrived; she spreads the bed for a long time dwelling in thought — occupied thus in hundreds of dreams of making a bed while imagining you — yet without you this fine-bodied one does not survive the night. [verse 38]
- verse 14किं विश्राम्यसि कृष्णभोगिभवने भाण्डीरभूमीरुहि भ्रात र्याहि नदृष्टिगोचरमितस्सानन्दनन्दास्पदम्।रधायावचनं तदध्वगमुखान्नन्दान्तिकेगोपतो गोविन्दस्यजयन्ति सायमतिथिप्राशस्त्यगर्भागिरः॥ 40 ॥kiṃ viśrāmyasi kṛṣṇabhōgibhavanē bhāṇḍīrabhūmīruhi bhrāta ryāhi nadṛṣṭigōcharamitassānandanandāspadam।radhāyāvachanaṃ tadadhvagamukhānnandāntikēgōpatō gōvindasyajayanti sāyamatithiprāśastyagarbhāgiraḥ॥ 40 ॥meaning
Why do you rest in the bower of Krishna's serpent? O brother, go — do not go beyond sight — to that place of ananda, Nandaa's abode; those words of Radha from wayfarers' mouths reaching Nanda's vicinity — Govinda's words at evening hold the greatness of auspicious welcome. [verse 39]
- verse 15॥ इति गीतगोविन्दे वासकसज्जावर्णने कुण्ठवैकुण्ठो नाम षष्ठः सर्गः ॥॥ iti gītagōvindē vāsakasajjāvarṇanē kuṇṭhavaikuṇṭhō nāma ṣaṣṭhaḥ sargaḥ ॥meaning
Thus ends the sixth canto named 'Kuntha Vaikuntha — the Frustrated in Vaikuntha,' describing the Vasakasajja in the Gita Govinda. [colophon]
