When her friends had gone, Hari, seeing the sweet-minded Radha, her lower lip bathed in a swelling smile born of love-helplessness loaded with great modesty, lying with eyes cast down on a fresh bed of new shoots, spoke.

'On this couch of fresh sprouts, O lover, set the lotus of your feet — let this fine ornament, the foe of your tender feet, suffer their defeat. For just a moment now, follow Narayana like Radhika, O Radhika.'

'Speak to me a favorable word, like nectar dripping from the treasury of your face's nectar; let me remove from your bosom this fine garment that stops your breasts as if it were itself separation.'

'In the rush of embracing the beloved, place your jar-like breasts, hard to obtain, thrilled with horripilation, upon my bosom — dry up the burning of love.'

'Bring the nectar-essence of your lower lip and revive your servant who is as if dead, O young lady — his mind set upon you, his body burnt by the fire of separation, devoid of all sport.'

'O moon-faced one, make the gem-girdle resound, the cause of your throat's tune; put an end to my long affliction in the pair of ears made restless by the cuckoo's call.'

'Cease from your great fruitless wrath that has now made me weak even at the sight; your eye, half-closed and as if shamed — give up this play of love-pique.'

'Whatever Sri Jayadeva has uttered step by step is the joy of Madhuripu; may it generate in connoisseurs the charming sport of rasa and bhava.'
- verse 12मारङ्के रतिकेलिसङ्कुलरणारम्भे तया साहस-प्रायं कान्तजयाय किञ्चिदुपरि प्रारम्भि यत्सम्भ्रमात् ।निष्पन्दा जघनस्थली शिथिलता दोर्वल्लिरुत्कम्पितं वक्षो मीलितमक्षि पौरुषरसः स्त्रीणां कुतः सिध्यति ॥ 69 ॥māraṅkē ratikēlisaṅkularaṇārambhē tayā sāhasa-prāyaṃ kāntajayāya kiñchidupari prārambhi yatsambhramāt ।niṣpandā jaghanasthalī śithilatā dōrvallirutkampitaṃ vakṣō mīlitamakṣi pauruṣarasaḥ strīṇāṃ kutaḥ sidhyati ॥ 69 ॥meaning
'In the war that begins as the love-play battle of Kama, she — eager somewhat to conquer her lover — began with daring; her hips became motionless, her arm-vine slack, her breast trembling, her eyes closed; how could the manly rasa of women be accomplished?'

Then to the lover, exhausted from love yet still desirous of adornment, Radha — undisturbed, self-controlled mistress — spoke.

- verse 15कुरु यदुनन्दन चन्दनशिशिरतरेण करेण पयोधरे ।मृगमदपत्रकमत्र मनोभवमङ्गलकलशसहोदरे ।निजगाद सा यदुनन्दने क्रीडति हृदयानन्दने ॥ 1 ॥kuru yadunandana chandanaśiśiratarēṇa karēṇa payōdharē ।mṛgamadapatrakamatra manōbhavamaṅgalakalaśasahōdarē ।nijagāda sā yadunandanē krīḍati hṛdayānandanē ॥ 1 ॥meaning
'O son of Yadu (Krishna), with your hand cooler than sandal, on my breast — upon this mango-bud-resembling auspicious jar of love — make the deer-musk leaf-design.' Thus she spoke to him who sports in her heart, the joy-giver.

'O dear, on the eyes — those that loose the arrows of the lord of love and that humble the bee-host with their collyrium — shine with the kohl smudged by your kiss on my lower lip.'

'Place the swarm of bees — beautiful and long — in front of me on my face that has surpassed the lotus, the unstained one; rearrange the merry locks on my forehead.'

'On my lovely curls, O honor-giver, set the chowrie-banner of Manmatha; make the lotus-place lovely with the loosened ornaments of love, with peacock-feather ornaments.'

'On my dense rich hips — the cave that conquers the hostile elephant — settle the gem-girdle, garments and ornaments, O auspicious-hearted one, beautifully.'

'In the lovely speech of Sri Jayadeva, in the ornament that is the hymn-fragment of the nectar of remembering Hari's feet, make the heart compassionate — that breaks the fever of becoming and the stain of the Kali age.'
- verse 23रचय कुचयोः पत्रं चित्रं कुरुष्व कपोलयो-र्घटय जघने काञ्चीमञ्च स्रजा कबरीभरम् ।कलय वलयश्रेणीं पाणौ पदे कुरु नूपुरा-विति निगतितः प्रीतः पीताम्बरोऽपि तथाकरोत् ॥ 71 ॥rachaya kuchayōḥ patraṃ chitraṃ kuruṣva kapōlayō-rghaṭaya jaghanē kāñchīmañcha srajā kabarībharam ।kalaya valayaśrēṇīṃ pāṇau padē kuru nūpurā-viti nigatitaḥ prītaḥ pītāmbarō'pi tathākarōt ॥ 71 ॥meaning
'Make a leaf-design on the breasts; make a varied design on the cheeks; arrange the girdle on the hips; gather the locks with a flower-strand; place a row of bangles on the hand and anklets on the feet.' — so urged, the well-pleased Yellow-Clad one did so.
- verse 24यद्गान्ध्गर्वकलासु कौशलमनुध्यानं च यद्वैष्णवं यच्छृङ्गारविवेकतत्वमपि यत्काव्येषु लीलायितम् ।तत्सर्वं जयदेवपण्डितकवेः कृष्णैकतानात्मनः सानन्दाः परिशोधयन्तु सुधियः श्रीगीतगोविन्दतः ॥ 72 ॥yadgāndhgarvakalāsu kauśalamanudhyānaṃ cha yadvaiṣṇavaṃ yachChṛṅgāravivēkatatvamapi yatkāvyēṣu līlāyitam ।tatsarvaṃ jayadēvapaṇḍitakavēḥ kṛṣṇaikatānātmanaḥ sānandāḥ pariśōdhayantu sudhiyaḥ śrīgītagōvindataḥ ॥ 72 ॥meaning
Whatever skill in Gandharva arts, whatever Vaishnava meditation, whatever truth of the discrimination of love, whatever sport in poetic works — let all the wise gladly examine all that of the Krishna-single-minded poet Jayadeva from the Sri Gita Govinda.

Of Sri Jayadeva, son of Sri Bhojadeva and Ramadevi — may the poetry of Sri Gita Govinda be on the throats of the dear circle of Parashara and others.
