• verse 1

  ईश्वर उवाच ।शृणु देवि प्रवक्ष्यामि कवचं सर्वसिद्धिदम् ।पठित्वा पाठयित्वा च नरो मुच्येत सङ्कटात् ॥ 1 ॥

  īśvara uvācha ।śṛṇu dēvi pravakṣyāmi kavachaṃ sarvasiddhidam ।paṭhitvā pāṭhayitvā cha narō muchyēta saṅkaṭāt ॥ 1 ॥

  meaning

  Ishvara said: Listen, O Devi, I shall declare the kavacham that grants all perfections; a person who recites or teaches this is freed from all dangers.

• verse 2

  अज्ञात्वा कवचं देवि दुर्गामन्त्रं च यो जपेत् ।न चाप्नोति फलं तस्य परं च नरकं व्रजेत् ॥ 2 ॥

  ajñātvā kavachaṃ dēvi durgāmantraṃ cha yō japēt ।na chāpnōti phalaṃ tasya paraṃ cha narakaṃ vrajēt ॥ 2 ॥

  meaning

  One who recites the Durga mantra without knowing this kavacham does not obtain its fruit and goes to a terrible hell.

• verse 3

  उमादेवी शिरः पातु ललाटे शूलधारिणी ।चक्षुषी खेचरी पातु कर्णौ चत्वरवासिनी ॥ 3 ॥

  umādēvī śiraḥ pātu lalāṭē śūladhāriṇī ।chakṣuṣī khēcharī pātu karṇau chatvaravāsinī ॥ 3 ॥

  meaning

  Let Uma Devi protect the head; let the trident-bearer protect the forehead; let Khechara protect the eyes; let the dweller of the four-crossroads protect the ears.

• verse 4

  सुगन्धा नासिकं पातु वदनं सर्वधारिणी ।जिह्वां च चण्डिकादेवी ग्रीवां सौभद्रिका तथा ॥ 4 ॥

  sugandhā nāsikaṃ pātu vadanaṃ sarvadhāriṇī ।jihvāṃ cha chaṇḍikādēvī grīvāṃ saubhadrikā tathā ॥ 4 ॥

  meaning

  Let the fragrant one protect the nose; let the all-sustaining one protect the face; let Chandika Devi protect the tongue; let Saubhadrika protect the neck.

• verse 5

  अशोकवासिनी चेतो द्वौ बाहू वज्रधारिणी ।हृदयं ललितादेवी उदरं सिंहवाहिनी ॥ 5 ॥

  aśōkavāsinī chētō dvau bāhū vajradhāriṇī ।hṛdayaṃ lalitādēvī udaraṃ siṃhavāhinī ॥ 5 ॥

  meaning

  Let the Ashoka-dweller protect the heart; let the thunderbolt-bearer protect both arms; let Lalita Devi protect the heart; let the lion-rider protect the belly.

• verse 6

  कटिं भगवती देवी द्वावूरू विन्ध्यवासिनी ।महाबला च जङ्घे द्वे पादौ भूतलवासिनी ॥ 6 ॥

  kaṭiṃ bhagavatī dēvī dvāvūrū vindhyavāsinī ।mahābalā cha jaṅghē dvē pādau bhūtalavāsinī ॥ 6 ॥

  meaning

  Let Bhagavati Devi protect the waist; let Vindhyavasini protect both thighs; let Mahabala protect both shanks; let the earth-dweller protect the feet.

• verse 7

  एवं स्थिताऽसि देवि त्वं त्रैलोक्ये रक्षणात्मिका ।रक्ष मां सर्वगात्रेषु दुर्गे देवि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ 7 ॥

  ēvaṃ sthitā'si dēvi tvaṃ trailōkyē rakṣaṇātmikā ।rakṣa māṃ sarvagātrēṣu durgē dēvi namō'stu tē ॥ 7 ॥

  meaning

  Thus you abide, O Devi, as protectress of the three worlds; protect me in all my limbs, O Durga, Devi — salutation to you.
