- verse 1जगत्प्रतिष्ठाहेतुर्यः धर्मः श्रुत्यन्तकीर्तितः ।तस्यापि शास्ता यो देवस्तं सदा समुपाश्रये ॥ 1 ॥jagatpratiṣṭhāhēturyaḥ dharmaḥ śrutyantakīrtitaḥ ।tasyāpi śāstā yō dēvastaṃ sadā samupāśrayē ॥ 1 ॥meaning
I ever take refuge in that god who is the Ruler (Shasta) of even Dharma — the dharma celebrated in the Upanishads as the foundation of the world.
- verse 2श्रीशङ्कराचार्यैः शिवावतारैःधर्मप्रचाराय समस्तकाले ।सुस्थापितं शृङ्गमहीध्रवर्येपीठं यतीन्द्राः परिभूषयन्ति ॥ 2 ॥śrīśaṅkarāchāryaiḥ śivāvatāraiḥdharmaprachārāya samastakālē ।susthāpitaṃ śṛṅgamahīdhravaryēpīṭhaṃ yatīndrāḥ paribhūṣayanti ॥ 2 ॥meaning
Established for all time by the great Shankaracharyas, incarnations of Shiva, on the eminent peak of Sringagiri, the seat (peetha) is adorned by the foremost of ascetics.
- verse 3तेष्वेव कर्मन्दिवरेषु विद्या--तपोधनेषु प्रथितानुभावः ।विद्यासुतीर्थोऽभिनवोऽद्य योगीशास्तारमालोकयितुं प्रतस्थे ॥ 3 ॥tēṣvēva karmandivarēṣu vidyā--tapōdhanēṣu prathitānubhāvaḥ ।vidyāsutīrthō'bhinavō'dya yōgīśāstāramālōkayituṃ pratasthē ॥ 3 ॥meaning
Among those karmandi-best ones, rich in learning and tapas, the renowned Vidyateertha — today's young yogi — set out to behold Shasta.
- verse 4धर्मस्य गोप्ता यतिपुङ्गवोऽयंधर्मस्य शास्तारमवैक्षतेति ।युक्तं तदेतद्युभयोस्तयोर्हिसम्मेलनं लोकहिताय नूनम् ॥ 4 ॥dharmasya gōptā yatipuṅgavō'yaṃdharmasya śāstāramavaikṣatēti ।yuktaṃ tadētadyubhayōstayōrhisammēlanaṃ lōkahitāya nūnam ॥ 4 ॥meaning
This foremost of ascetics, protector of dharma, beheld the Shasta of dharma; surely the meeting of these two is for the welfare of the world.
- verse 5कालेऽस्मिन् कलिमलदूषितेऽपि धर्मःश्रौतोऽयं न खलु विलोपमाप तत्र ।हेतुः खल्वयमिह नूनमेव नान्यःशास्ताऽस्ते सकलजनैकवन्द्यपादः ॥ 5 ॥kālē'smin kalimaladūṣitē'pi dharmaḥśrautō'yaṃ na khalu vilōpamāpa tatra ।hētuḥ khalvayamiha nūnamēva nānyaḥśāstā'stē sakalajanaikavandyapādaḥ ॥ 5 ॥meaning
Even in this age stained by the dirt of Kali, the dharma of shruti has not been wiped out — and the only reason is that Shasta, whose feet are revered by all people, is here.
- verse 6ज्ञानं षडास्यवरतातकृपैकलभ्यंमोक्षस्तु तार्क्ष्यवरवाहदयैकलभ्यः ।ज्ञानं च मोक्ष उभयं तु विना श्रमेणप्राप्यं जनैः हरिहरात्मजसत्प्रसादात् ॥ 6 ॥jñānaṃ ṣaḍāsyavaratātakṛpaikalabhyaṃmōkṣastu tārkṣyavaravāhadayaikalabhyaḥ ।jñānaṃ cha mōkṣa ubhayaṃ tu vinā śramēṇaprāpyaṃ janaiḥ hariharātmajasatprasādāt ॥ 6 ॥meaning
Knowledge is gained only through the grace of the six-faced Skanda's father (Shiva); liberation only through the mercy of the lord whose mount is Garuda (Vishnu); but both knowledge and liberation are had by people without effort, by the grace of the son of Hari and Hara.
- verse 7यमनियमादिसमेतैः यतचित्तैर्योगिभिः सदा ध्येयम् ।शास्तारं हृदि कलये धातारं सर्वलोकस्य ॥ 7 ॥yamaniyamādisamētaiḥ yatachittairyōgibhiḥ sadā dhyēyam ।śāstāraṃ hṛdi kalayē dhātāraṃ sarvalōkasya ॥ 7 ॥meaning
I hold in my heart the Shasta — meditated upon ever by yogis of restrained mind endowed with yama, niyama and the rest — the upholder of the entire world.
- verse 8शबरगिरिनिवासः सर्वलोकैकपूज्यःनतजनसुखकारी नम्रहृत्तापहारी ।त्रिदशदितिजसेव्यः स्वर्गमोक्षप्रदाताहरिहरसुतदेवः सन्ततं शं तनोतु ॥ 8 ॥śabaragirinivāsaḥ sarvalōkaikapūjyaḥnatajanasukhakārī namrahṛttāpahārī ।tridaśaditijasēvyaḥ svargamōkṣapradātāhariharasutadēvaḥ santataṃ śaṃ tanōtu ॥ 8 ॥meaning
Dweller on Sabarigiri, sole worshipped one of all the worlds, joy-giver to those who bow, remover of the fevers of humble hearts, served by gods and demons, bestower of heaven and liberation — may the son of Hari and Hara, the god, ever extend welfare.
