At the time of the sacrifice, her husband Shiva was dishonored by Daksha, so she cast off her body born of Daksha and was reborn as Himalaya's daughter.

This alone is the story of the birth of the Goddess—she who was Sati is now the daughter of Himalaya, the best of mountains.

O king, by hearing this regularly the enemies of a man are destroyed; and by constantly worshipping the Goddess with devotion, prosperity comes.

He is freed from sins, from diseases, and his enemies are destroyed; he obtains wealth, sons and a good wife.

By worshipping the Goddess with the eight-petal flower oblation along with this text, all desired objects are attained.

By reciting this on the eighth day of the fortnight with concentrated mind, one attains everything desired and all one's sins are removed.

On the eighth day of Chaitra month, one who hears this with pure mind attains wealth, children and victory over enemies.

O king, whatever a man desires—let him offer the Devi Mahatmya regularly; the Goddess is pleased and grants the desired boon.

Whatever oblations, donations, sacrifices and fasts are performed, they are all fulfilled by hearing this great glory of the Goddess.

Therefore hear this Devi Mahatmya with devotion; it is the supreme means of fearlessness and the attainment of liberation.

O king, the great Devi destroyed the demons Madhu and Kaitabha, and Mahishasura and Shumbha-Nishumbha—all for the welfare of the world.

She who is the supreme Shakti of Vishnu, whose form is the universe, who is worshipped by the wise—may she grant all boons.

This Devi Mahatmya is the best of all hymns; it is capable of granting liberation; nothing is equal to it.

The sage said: The Goddess is to be worshipped in the autumn season with a great festival; the Navami is especially auspicious.

A man who listens to this with devotion—all his calamities are removed; no fear of the king, of fire, of enemies, or of water will arise.

By listening repeatedly to this supreme Mahatmya of the Goddess, one is freed from sins—this is declared by the lord of speech.

The sage told the king: this is the Mahatmya of Chandika, the greatest of all hymns—recite it daily.
- verse 30॥श्री सप्त शती देवीमहत्म्यं समाप्तम् ॥। ॐ तत् सत् ।॥śrī sapta śatī dēvīmahatmyaṃ samāptam ॥। ōṃ tat sat ।meaning
(Phalashruti) One who recites this daily will have all fears destroyed and all boons fulfilled.

By the grace of the Goddess, the king Suratha recovered his kingdom; and the merchant Samadhi attained detachment.

Both the king and the merchant worshipped the clay image of the Goddess in the forest for three years.

The Goddess was pleased and appeared to them in a beautiful form, granting their desired boons.
- verse 34ॐ प्राच्यां रक्ष प्रतीच्यां च चण्डिके दक्षरक्षिणेभ्रामरे नात्म शुलस्य उत्तरस्यां तथेश्वरि । शिखायै वषट् ।ōṃ prāchyāṃ rakṣa pratīchyāṃ cha chaṇḍikē dakṣarakṣiṇēbhrāmarē nātma śulasya uttarasyāṃ tathēśvari । śikhāyai vaṣaṭ ।meaning
The king received his kingdom back and Samadhi received liberation—both were fulfilled by the grace of the Goddess.
- verse 35ॐ सऽउम्यानि यानिरूपाणि त्रैलोक्ये विचरन्तितेयानि चात्यन्त घोराणि तै रक्षास्मां स्तथा भुवं कवचाय हुम् ।ōṃ s'umyāni yānirūpāṇi trailōkyē vicharantitēyāni chātyanta ghōrāṇi tai rakṣāsmāṃ stathā bhuvaṃ kavachāya hum ।meaning
O king, thus the great Goddess is ever ready to grant the desires of her devotees; worship her with this supreme hymn.
- verse 36ॐ खड्ग शूल गदा दीनि यानि चास्ताणि तेम्बिकेकरपल्लवसङ्गीनि तैरस्मा न्रक्ष सर्वतः नेत्रत्रयाय वषट् ।ōṃ khaḍga śūla gadā dīni yāni chāstāṇi tēmbikēkarapallavasaṅgīni tairasmā nrakṣa sarvataḥ nētratrayāya vaṣaṭ ।meaning
(Colophon) Thus ends the thirteenth chapter of the Devi Mahatmya known as the Phalashruti (fruits of recitation).
