O youthful moon-rayed foreheaded one in the garuda-and-peacock silk, your full breasts are cloud-dark — your side glance outshines the dark blue lotus; the sun of the sacrificial drink flows from you.

O Amba, with a vina like a new gourd near a neck curved like a kadamba, with a lip like a red bimba, worshipped by Shambhu and his host in the kadamba grove — full of the joy of the honeyed season's lotus.

O Devi who dwells in a kadamba forest like a great bliss-abode, dressed in vermillion flowers, playing the vina, shaking the spring lotus with the mad-bee hum of music.

Why do you choose to dwell in a skeleton-holding, blood-seeking body, O you who are the answer to desires, O Girijaa, enemy of the lotus-like heart's foe? This doubt arises.

O you whose breast necklace-creeper shames Kubera's treasures, whose graceful gait shames the king-elephant's sway, whose feet gladden and bless the children — O blessed one of Shambhu's magnanimous grace.

O Dakshayani, whose mind is beautiful in the destruction and discipline of demons, whose face is amused during the viewing of Shiva's dance, who struck down the Daksha sacrifice — bestow your glance on me.

O one who fulfils the wishes of those who bow, with teeth white as spotless jasmine, feet sprinkled with the nectar of the jewel-bee-lotus of divine crowds — set in the gentle breeze, fragrant.

Wherever your desire alights, O Girija, let there be incomparable parrot-like brilliance; feet that give shelter, protector against the terrible host of Sutrama and dark-faced ones.

You who destroy the blazing flame-mass of fears crossing all banks — your own praise is the fire; you who delight in nurturing with the nectar-stream; full-breasted, cloud-dark-tressed, adorned with sport.

O you who are deeply relished, heart-binding by nature, like ambrosia in the ocean of the world — you who sustain the worlds, who possess the fragrance of bees, who are ever abiding in the supreme.
