- verse 1श्री देव्युवाच ।मम नाम सहस्रं च शिव पूर्वविनिर्मितम् ।तत्पठ्यतां विधानेन तथा सर्वं भविष्यति ॥śrī dēvyuvācha ।mama nāma sahasraṃ cha śiva pūrvavinirmitam ।tatpaṭhyatāṃ vidhānēna tathā sarvaṃ bhaviṣyati ॥meaning
The Goddess herself speaks: 'The thousand names of mine, composed by Shiva in ancient times — let them be recited according to proper rite, and all that is wished for will come to be.'

Viniyoga (ritual dedication): Om. Of this Sri Dakaradi Durga-sahasranama-stotra, the seer is Shiva, the meter is Anushtup, the deity is Sri Durga, the seed is 'Dum', the pin is 'Dum'. The application is recitation for removal of sorrow, poverty, and disease.

Dhyana (visualization): Meditate on Durga, whose brilliance rivals lightning, who rides a lion on its shoulder, fearsome in aspect, attended by maidens wielding swords and shields. She bears discus, mace, sword, shield, arrow, bow, cord, and the threatening gesture; she embodies fire, bears the crescent moon, and has three eyes.
